This historic square got its name from the fountain that filled the lagoon that was in that area. By the late 20th century, the square had fallen into such disrepair, the entire square was demolished and rebuilt except for Casa Ramón on the Southwest park of the square. Today it’s a cute little square with a rectangular plan. Surrounding the square are colourfully painted houses and shops. The “La bella Lola” sculpture is in this square and is by far one of the best landmarks in Oviedo.

La Plaza del Fontán es una de las más bellas y coloridas de la ciudad. Una plaza porticada de planta rectangular que debe su nombre de la fuente manantial que llenaba una primitiva laguna que se encontraba en esta zona. Esta muy animada y tiene restaurantes y terrazas. Destacan las fachadas de colores de los locales decoradas con flores.

Antigua laguna de Oviedo en la antiguedad luego teatrillo de comedias se fundo el mercado en 1885 entre los años 1996/1997 se produce el derribo total de la, plaza menos la sidreria Casa Ramon el edificio pintado de azul. Visitarla en dia de mercados.

Plaza tranquila para hacer una parada, tomar sidra y un rato de tranquilidad para seguir viendo la ciudad, comprar en la tienda de Maribel productos típicos y seguir viviendo la ciudad.

A wonderful square, in keeping with old town Oviedo. Try not to compare it to major cities!! Check out the pillars in the corner of the Casa Roan restaurant. They are original. Some 20 years ago a political candidate promised to renovate the Plaza (it was a bit fallen down). But the owner of Casa Roman disagreed (not knocking my place about) so that corner remains original. Nice statue on one the benches.

There are buses and trains from Leon to Oviedo station.
From the station there are city buses that take you around town, but you could also walk - not more than 15-20 min through the newer part to the older/historic part of town.
