Antiguamente había una plaza del año 1723 pero fue destruida durante el asedio de 1813. Siguiendo los planos de Pedro de Ugartemendía, en 1815 se reedifica la plaza siendo el primer hito de la reconstrucción de la ciudad.

A big open square and where we looked for the right place to have lunch. But most of the places here seemed a little too much for the tourists, so we looked on the side streets instead. But you come here for the great classic architecture.

I was amazed by the central square in Donostia, its structure is ex-arena, in addition to having explained it to us the talented guide Teresa, you can see it because on each window of the balcony there are the numbers that indicate the stations of where there were spectators. Now the bullfights have different spaces and this has become a place for events and restaurants especially tapas, pintxos and to drink a copa di tinto, I drank the delicious Txakoli (pronounced Ciacolì because the euphoric power favors chatter ... the ciacolare ...).😂

For us, this was the most beautiful square in San Sebastian. Bullfights used to be held here and the balconies were rented to spectators, hence the numbering on the balconies. This part of San Sebastian never gets old either.

Not sure why this is listed as an attraction. It’s an open square but nothing special. We stopped here in the morning and it was functioning as a parking lot for beer and food trucks.

Great place where a small stop can make and enjoy tapas and wine. The predecessors have already pointed out that this was a bullfighting arena and the many numbers on the balconies were the lodges

The whole old town of San Sebastian is very quaint, but then she comes along and is a gem. Square, surrounded by palaces with numbered yellow windows, a reminder that it was once a plaza de toros, with porches full of rooms. Clean and tidy: beautiful!

One of the few open areas in the old town. This is a place where there is sunshine and open air. We had lunch at a cafe under some umbrellas. No cars, it was peaceful even though there were a lot of people milling about. Handsome buildings all around.

Yes, there are a few places around the Plaza and its surroundings where you can have breakfast. Besides the more Anglo places like Starbucks and McDonalds, there are smaller places to enjoy local meals.
