Beautiful church and monastery perched atop a very awe-inspiring mountain range. A must-see if you are in Catalunya but he prepared to be rinsed for every coin you have in your pocket. There's a lot of ‘shops’ and not much to do, after you have seen the black madonna of course. Oddly theres even a pikice station up here - paranoid much?

This is a comment on getting there. We bought the "Tot Monserrat Aeri" tickets which include the train to Montserrat, cable car, buffet lunch (but not at the Montserrat restaurant Mon-Thurs - it's somewhere else), the funicular and access to the virgin Mary and museum. It does not include the boys choir performance at 1pm for which we bought separate tickets.
Even though we left our accommodation at 10.30am, we needed to catch two trains to Place Espanya to redeem our QR code email tickets for an actual ticket. You must do this. However, we came up at the wrong Metro exit, which is easy to do. We found an "I" info booth, she directed us to the correct entrance. There was a Montserrat information booth who directed us to another set of stairs. She did not mention a ticket. We attempted to use our QR code at the ticket machines because both offices said "just scan your phone". After a few attempts, we looked around and saw another booth. There, she scanned the phone and gave us tickets. I asked about which exit we take and she showed us where to get off foe the Cable car.
We are currently on the train which leaves at 11.36am. The times for the train were vague saying "once per hour" but a bit of googling found the timetable.
Essentially, this isn't a negative review, we haven't yet done the experience, but it looks like we will only just make the boy's choir at 1pm and only because we booked the cable car which is faster than the rack railway.
I guess I'm saying, give yourself plenty of time for this experience and possibly expect to get a bit lost if you are like us. We have been catching trains for a month in Europe so aren't novices - just don't leave your timing too tight!

This is a beautiful church in a majestic mountaintop setting. We visited as part of a day trip guided tour from Barcelona. We only wish we could have stayed longer to explore the area more.

My family and I definitely enjoyed the walk around near Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey (Abadia de Montserrat). We took some memorable pictures and visited the bar and souvenir shop

Excellent Montserrat Abbey with panoramic views, lots of Heritage, lots of history, you can visit with Tour Guide, Family or Company.

I enjoyed the difficult winding drive to this out of the way mountain monastery. This is a unique monastery that hid the black Madonna.

It's really unique, this great place. Unfortunately, too many people. You can only visit the Basilica if you have made an online Booking Referral. I find that really shameful.

A church like so many in Italy, the peculiarity is the location. Nothing worth spending 30/40€ for a view at €10 for three hours of parking. Very expensive souvenirs.

A superb place , convenient parking , paid but correct price , restaurants at all Awards , an initiative union with friendly staff who speak French with of course souvenir shops for tourists .
The site is beautiful , well maintained, the passage in front of the black virgin is paid and we choose the time (to book on arrival on the site )
The Way of the Cross is nice to do , but we will come back for the hike of the Way of Hermitage .

The choir sings every day at 13:00 in the Basilica. It is very crowded, you need to get there early. They shut the doors 10 mins before the choir starts. The performance lasts about ten minutes.

No one was checking people at the door, as they do at the Vatican. However, I’s sure respectful dress as described above is appreciated. What I found disrespectful was the number of people taking selfies with the black Madonna.

It is a stunning road! We went in our rental car at about 8:30 am on a Friday morning in May. It was empty. Plenty of parking. In fact about 3 or 4 other cars only when we got there. Try to beat the crowds who arrive at 9:00 by cable car and public transport. When we got back at about 15:00 after climbing the mountain, the parking was full but not crazy cramped like the horror stories I read and believed. In fact, the whole experience was an absolute breeze. Don't believe only the negative reviews. Of course I have no idea about parking a bicycle, but the info office was super helpful. I am sure they would answer any questions if you phoned or sent an email. A motor cycle would be perfectly fine too. You would love the road if you have a motor cycle and go really early. Enjoy it. My husband LOVED the driving experience.

Montserrat is absolutely beautiful. You must plan to spend several hours here, as there are other small chapels and views to enjoy. Please bring good walking shoes and an extra bottle of water or two. There are food vendors and a restaurant and bathrooms. Lots of walking up and down small hills. Enjoy.

We went up by Montserrat rack railway and came down by our coach bus. Either you can go up or down by Rack Railway or Funicular Sant Joan or Cable Car.

Hotel hay solamente uno: Abad Cisneros. Es de tipo medio (creo que 3 estrellas). El desayuno es un bufet muy completo, tienen menú y carta con productos de proximidad y de calidad, con opciones para intolerancias alimenticias. El servicio es muy atento. Está totalment adaptado arquitectónicamente.
