Historic city, with a beautiful old town full of modernist buildings, sculptures, churches... nice to walk.

We arrived with my husband on the MSC Preziosa and we were only in Vigo for a few hours. We walked from the port area to the historic center in the morning, which was when we got off the cruise ship. We were able to see the Mercado da Pedra, the famous street where oysters are sold, the beautiful Basilica of Santa María and of course the sculpture of El Mereno was not missing from the visit. We traveled quite a bit, we didn't even stop for lunch. We enjoyed the Renaissance architecture of its buildings and we were even able to go shopping. We would have liked to spend more time in this city, since we liked it a lot.

A fairly normal urban center. I don't consider Vigo to be a very special city, and its urban area is no different. Passable.

This pleasant area is worthy of a 1 to 2 hour visit. Sculptures are very interesting so use a local guide who can explain the significance of each one. Vigo overall is appropriate for a relaxing vacation but very limited in sights and activities.

Our tour in Galicia started from Vigo, the historic center is beautiful and there are many things to see....I saw few churches, the co-cathedral was a disappointment, but a visit is worth it, the best thing is to do it with a guide.

We coincided in Vigo on the weekend of April 6-7-8, when the Festival of the Reonquest of the City to the French troops in 1809 was celebrated in the Old Town, and the atmosphere was extraordinary with people, so much so that if If there had only been half, it would have been ideal; There were moments, especially on Saturday, when it was impossible to even walk

With its network of steep alleys, the Old Town (Casco Vello) of Vigo is ideal for taking a leisurely walk and then having vermouth on a terrace or eating or tapas. Bordered by attractive old buildings, the pedestrian streets invite you to relax and wander without a fixed purpose. Among the buildings, the church of Santa María (La Colegiata) stands out, built at the beginning of the 19th century. The Old Town includes the entire area that was within the walls built in 1656 during the reign of Philip IV.
In 1946, the town was declared a Historical-Artistic Site.

We explored Vigo on a sunny day in September, and it was very pleasant wandering around looking at the interesting architecture and art works.
There are lots of cafes and bars to sit outside and enjoy people watching, the city is quite hilly but we liked climbing the steps up to view the fortress above the town which has what looks like an apartment block built inside it.
There are however lot’s of information boards describing the history of the site (with English descriptions) which I was grateful for.
There were some street entertainers and singers in the city centre, we felt safe as we bimbled about looking like tourists, it does not seem to have massive amounts of charm but was a nice location to spend some time.

Visit by tourist bus was very good, I recommend it.

Vigo is really small so you can cover everywhere by foot. They have a good train system so you can walk to either station and get to Santiago de Compostela and other surrounding places of interest.
Oyster street is very small but if you come away from that area and walk you get to the Casco Vello and you will see a larger shopping area of the new town. Hope that helps you and I hope it doesn't rain for you as we were there 5 days and it was non stop rain!

si ha conocido los edificios de arquitectos tan importsntes como: A. Palacios, M. Pacewiz, C. PortelA, E. Miralles. Vazquez Consuegra, que ealizo el edificio moderno de la Xunta, con el premio al mejor edificio urbano de 1995, etc. etc.

No soy muy aficcionado a los arquitectos y si a los edificios espectaculares , pero en Vigo si que se Que Antonio Palacios creo el edificio que hoy es Caixa Nova , antigua teatro en su inaguracion , Michel Pacewiz , la Escuela de Artes y oficios , hoy el Banco de Galicia , expectacular , ambos tenian el granito blanco de Castrelos como predominante en sus obras.
De Cesar portela , se su obra el >Museo del Mar . pero no lo visitamos.
De Enric Miralles me suenan sus edificios en Barcelona y Catalunya , pero no puedo decir ninguno de Vigo y menos que visistaramos.
Guillermo Vazquez Consuegra , es mas facil premio de 2005 por la Ordenacion del Frente Maritimo de Vigo.
Siento no poder ser mas explicito pero reitero la arquitectura y sus arquitectos no es lo que mas recuerde de mis visistas a nos er como en estos casos que vayas con alguien de la ciudad y te lo explique.
