I booked an online tasting with Johnny - he sent me a kit with 6 oils before our video-call lesson. The class covered how to taste oil, what aromas and flavours can be found in oil, how to understand quality and also to recognise eventual defects. I had many questions and Johnny answered every single one of them enthusiastically.
I highly recommend this course to anyone wishing to understand more about the complex world of olive oil &, why not, to anyone who consumes olive oil on a daily basis!
I cannot wait to be able to follow a 'live' tour with him.

I had a wonderful evening learning from Johnny's hugge wealth of experience and knowledge on the subject of olive oil.
He was charming, funny and undoubtedly passionate on the topic and gave us brilliant information and tips.
He was more than happy to let us ask questions and interact, which made it feel less like a lecture and more like a conversation with an expert.
Highly recommend.

Covid has some positive sides: Otherwise I would have likely never gotten to enjoy Johnny's olive oil tasting. It was a really fun and interesting evening. Johnny's great. He knows so much about olive oil and has a really funny sense of humor. I quickly forgot we're only talking via Zoom.

We participated in Johnny‘s online olive oil tasting in April 2021 and it was such an informative, entertaining and lovely experience. Prior to the tasting you receive a beautifully packaged box of six different Italian extra virgin olive oils and a stack of tasting cups.
While Johnny is so very knowledgable and shared a lot of technical information, he also has a great sense of humour and was able to seemingly effortlessly create a relaxed and fun evening for the whole group.
After the tasting you are left with various oils and get to try them in your cooking which is a nice bonus.
Highly recommended online tasting and I cannot wait to be able to participate in the in-person tour one day.

My group of ten in NY thoroughly enjoyed our olive oil tasting. Who better to instruct you than a down to earth olive oil judge.?To say that Johnny has a passion for the subject is an understatement. We were sorry the hour and a half went so quickly, as we were sure there were many good stories yet untold. What others have written about how enjoyable this was are all true.

What an enjoyable experience Johnny Madge's online olive tasting has been, from booking to beyond. His friendly and welcoming email set my expectations high, the beautiful box of olive oils that arrived made me think, if I can't manage the log-in, this is worth it alone. But the log-in was easy, and the tutorial a relaxed and friendly gathering. A great way to learn a lot about olive oil from an expert, with the pleasure of a convivial tasting.

Very enjoyable and informative, Johnny struck a good balance between the practical and the technical, and brought it to life with personal anecdotes and stories, backed up with the right amount of visual aides and photos. We were left feeling happy and better prepared to taste new extra virgin olive oils, surely the liquid of the gods?
Johnny also kindly provided some follow up information via email after the class, which was very useful and comprehensive.

An entertaining, informative and hugely enjoyable on-line olive oil tasting with the charming Johnny Madge! We had such a fun evening, tasting different oils, remembering delicious Mediterranean dishes and thinking about what to cook with the little bottles we had received... while chatting with Johnny and learning all about olive growing, oil production and olive oil judging in Japan. Johnny was so generous with his time and his knowledge, and so easy-going, we could have chatted for hours. Locked down in gloomy England, we travelled in spirit and feel able to dream again of Italian adventures to come.

If you are serious about your food, you must venture forth to learn all about olive oil from an international master master judge. Johnny Madge will take you on a wonderful adventure on the olive oil tour. You'll see an ancient olive tree guarded by fierce geese, groves of olive trees, olives being pressed for oil up close and personal. And then for one of the highlights, lunch in a hilltop village with postcard views. You'll feel like you've gone back in time. The lunch was lovely local foods and one of the highlights was Johnny's mother-in-law's beans, doused liberally with a fresh olive oil handpicked for the dish.
Now, fast forward to Covid times and we'll have to wait for the next tour.
But now you can have the Johnny Madge oilive oil experience via Zoom.
Get you foody things together because Johnny ships you a number of oils, you Zoom in for the tasting led by the expert. We had a blast with friends from all over the country. Unique, brilliant, exceptional.
And that's why I say it's one of the 7 holy grails for foodies.
Now, fast forward to Covid times and we'll have to wait for the next tour.
But now you can have the Johnny Madge oilive oil experience via Zoom.

Very informative and casual. Johnny provides a fascinating insight into the craft of olive oil and teaches you a few things on how to enjoy quality olive oil as well. He’s also very receptive to questions and doesn’t mind deviating from the plan to entertain your questions

Hi! I am sorry that I did not see this and have no idea why I did not! Tours can last from 3 to 7 hours but the cost is always the same. If you don't have all that time we can meet in Rome for a 90 minute tasting. On my website there is more information which you can see on the TripAdvisor entry. Thank you for your enquiry.

Thank you very much for your enquiry. People who come on my tour normally take a train out to FARA SABINA. If I were to come into Rome to pick you up I would have to charge you extra, I am afraid. I live about an hour and a quarter out of the city. Please let me know when you would like to come on my tour so that we can organise. Thank you.

Thank you for your enquiry. I have often had children on the tour and they always seem to be very happy to be with us so: yes! I have children of my own and have taught for years so am quite used to children and really enjoy being with them.
