Check-out, an ephemeral exhibition of the collection of the Capitoline museums installed in a former power plant on the outskirts (outside the walls) in the Ostiense district, the museum became permanent and dedicated to the republican period.
The contrast between the works and the industrial setting is striking and very pleasant. The place is as interesting as the collection. At the time of the visit, temporary exhibition on modern Italian architecture. We also discover the Ostiense district with pleasure.

Art is art and tastes are subjective, but I must say that personally I find this "experiment", which is nothing but a combination of technology, even if not recent, and old glories, even if sometimes a little massacred, splendid and exciting.
Walking through the halls of the old power station and observing the remains of the past has a magical flavor, especially if at a certain time of a certain day of a certain time of the year in the whole museum section you are not even a dozen visitors and basically you feel like the place has opened just for you.
The price I find appropriate (discounts and free for young people and minors included) and the satisfactory preparation.
Too bad we didn't visit it earlier, but lucky we noticed in time.
Definitely recommended to everyone.

Away from the center but easily accessible by metro or bus.
Old machinery along with sculptures and mosaics, an impressive mix that you should not miss.
In addition, it is a quiet place without crowds so you can sit and enjoy without stress or schedules.

Technical/industrial museum together with an archaeological museum... what can I say, an unusual but winning combination. One cannot help but be amazed by the rooms of the Centrale Montemartini and the sculptures of the Capitoline museums. It's a shame that the reality is little known... it would also be nice if there was a written or audio guide to better understand the history of the power station and the works present...
The temporary exhibition "uninhabitable architecture" was also appreciated.
If I were from Rome I would go back often! Highly recommended.

For those who want to see an original museum, capable of connecting ancient art and culture with the more recent, technological history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, in particular, this is the right place. I highly recommend it. Connecting the ancient world with the modern world doesn't always work. In this case it works excellently. It is located in an area of Rome that is less frequented by tourists, but can be reached comfortably by Metro line B, Garbatella stop.

Might be more (and probably deservedly) popular if not providing full-time employment to a handful of lazy morons who cannot be bothered to admit visitors at 18:05 “ because museum is closing at 19”!

Such a great spot. Love the combination of industrial and art. Worth a visit when you are in Rome. My husband and I really enjoyed it.

Hi. I will be coming from the Via Vittorio Veneto area to this museum. Should I get off at the Stiense/Prefettua bus stop or the Garbatella Metro stop? And is this a safe area to walk around? Thanks!

from Piramide Station (metro) is a 15 minutes walk (via Ostiense), from Garbatella (metro) about 10 minutes.

There are two lifts; the first lift, in the Atrium, connects the ground floory to the Machine Hall.
The second, in the Columned Hall, allows the Boiler Room and the Meeting Hall to be reached from the ground floor. You can see a map on the website of the museum (Info - Accessibility for disabled people).
