Un Museo fantastico allestito in una centrale elettrica di inizio Novecento che ha funzionato per circa 60 anni.
Un'esperienza da non perdere.
Siamo rimasti veramente soddisfatti della visita.
Statue e mosaici di gran pregio che ti catturano lo sguardo a lungo in maniera ammaliante e suggestiva!
Da vedere.

Siamo andati in famiglia a visitare la centrale Montemartini che non conoscevamo...
É stata una sorpresa perché non c'è la aspettavamo così bella.
Ci sono mosaici della antica Roma stupendi e statue altrettanto belle .
Poi c'era anche un treno ottocentesco di Papa Pio IX ed era meraviglioso.
Tenuto molto bene ...
Insomma un bel museo all'interno di una ex centrale termica .

Far Exceeded expectations!

I happened upon this museum when I was walking to the basilica of S. Paolo fuori le Mura from our apartment in Testaccio. Even then, we thought it might be interesting to see the colori dei Romani exhibit on Roman mosaics. When we returned to see the mosaics, we were offered a family ticket so pairs 20 Euros for 2 adults and 2 children. The exhibit itself was great but the standing collection blew me away…so many precious and notable pieces in a venue that is well off the beaten path. Rome has been excavated for so long and in different places that it’s great to see some of these great relics displayed safely in one place.

Located in an old decommissioned power station, the artifacts are set against the backdrop of switchboards, instrument panels and boilers which is presented as a museum in and of itself. The Montemartini complex closes at 7p and latest entry is at 6p. Strongly recommended for anyone staying in Testaccio, Ostiense or Trastevere.

Una sorpresa inaspettata

Da un trasferimento di opere per lavori da effettuare nei Musei Capitolini, in questa centrale termoelettrica dismessa nasce e poi si sviluppa un museo eccezionale, che ha preso vita da un connubio apparentemente improponibile tra l'arte antica e l'archeologia industriale. Peccato che non sia visitato quanto meriterebbe, forse perché si trova in zona periferica forse perché è una realtà relativamente recente. Si entra non sapendo bene cosa aspettarsi, poi ci si lascia sorprendere dalla bellezza di tanti reperti archeologici, storici ed anche tecnologici, che si direbbero inconciliabili fra loro ma creano un'armonia incredibile. Tante le cose su cui focalizzare l'attenzione: mosaici di un realismo e di una vivacità eccezionale, statue stupende, macchinari poderosi che hanno perso l'utilità ma non la capacità di stupire, una bambola di epoca romana che è la vera antenata della Barbie, il primo treno dello Stato Pontificio e tanto altro ancora...spesso cose poco conosciute che catturano letteralmente il visitatore. Una visita assolutamente da consigliare!

Nice Museum Set Within an old Power Station

This is museum is the 'sister' museum of the Capitoline Museum. You can buy a combined ticket to cover both locations but I just rocked up and bought a ticket at the entrance for €10 (June 2023).
It has some great exhibits, lots of ancient sculptures set within the old industrial complex. There are lots of ancient mosaics. It also houses Pope Pius IX's train (very fancily decorated).
They give you a pamphlet when you enter which includes a map of the site. The museum was nearly empty when I went.
It was fairly easy to reach using public transport. Catch Metro Linea B to Garbatella, exit the station and take the pedestrian bridge, cross a car park, cross the road and you'll see the museum. The entrance is down a little road. There is a drinking fountain near the entrance.
My highlights were :-
- A model of the the tomb of Marcus Vergilius Eurysaces the baker
- Statue of Agrippina Minor
- Popes Train
I combined this visit with a trip to the Basilica of St Pauls Beyond the Walls which is a short walk south on Via Ostiense.

Assolutamente spettacolare ! Una ambientazione fantastica: il fascino di statue antiche e mosaici immerso in una architettura industriale di una centrale elettrica nata nel 1910 e rimasta in funzione sino agli anni 60. Da non perdere !!!!!! assolutamente consigliata

Una scoperta davvero inaspettata

In una centrale elettrica di oltre un secolo fa in mezzo a giganteschi macchinari dell'epoca è stato realizzato uno splendido percorso espositivo con spettacolari mosaici, sarcofagi e statue provenienti dalle ville romane dell'epoca imperiale. Al di là della indiscussa bellezza di quanto esposto veramente notevole la capacità del curatore di fondere con armonia le opere dell'antica Roma con i macchinari moderni, il marmo con l'accio creando effetti ottici di grande impatto.

Dieses Museum ist m.M. nach das schönste und spannendste,Museum in Rom! Bar jeglichen Tourismus-Rummels werden hier wunderschöne Exponate aus den Depots der Kapitolinischen Museen in Kontrast zur Ästhetik der Industriekultur ausgestellt. Dir ruhige und kontemplative Atmosphäre bildet dabei einen großartigen Rahmen zu den touristisch völlig überlaufenen Museen Roms! Meiner Meinung nach ein MUST!

Romans x steampunk!

An excellent museum which presented the exhibits in a novel and exciting way. It was like Romans x steam punk because of the old industrial power station setting but was off the usual tourist track, so no queues and no crowds. Definitely worth seeing and best to buy a combined ticket for the Capitoline Museum as well.

Ne vale la pena

L’edificio è una centrale termoelettrica del 1912, riconvertita in museo nel 1997. Al suo interno espone sculture, mosaici e reperti archeologici di età romana appartenenti alle Collezioni dei Musei Capitolini.Partendo dalle opere d’arte più antiche, risalenti alla Roma dell’età repubblicana, il percorso si snoda tra i grandiosi gruppi statuari dei templi ed edifici pubblici del centro monumentale, per poi concludersi con le preziose sculture e i mosaici che decoravano le ricche dimore private.Al piano terra si trova uno spazio riservato alle mostre temporanee.
Una sala è dedicata alla esposizione delle tre vetture appartenenti al treno di Pio IX, risalenti al 1858. Costo del biglietto attualmente di 10.00 euro.
