The origin of the church is very ancient and is traced back to Pope Paschal I in the 9th century, probably on the remains of a temple dedicated to the Egyptian gods of Isis and Serapis.
The interior has three naves, according to the basilica type.
It preserves a fresco by Perin del Vaga depicting Christ in Pietà, and in the apse the Martyrdom of Saint Stephen by Cristoforo Casolani.
Very interesting and beautiful, very close to the famous Marble Foot and the Pantheon.
