The origins of the church are to be ascribed to the apostolate of St Vincent Pallotti, who was canonized by Pope John XXII in 1963.
The saint was the founder of the Union of the Catholic Apostolate, that had the task of coordinating apostolic initiatives in many parts of the world, including the United States, and which includes priests, men and women religious and laity.
The founder, who died in 1850, left a great spiritual legacy, especially in Rome, where a parish church is dedicated to the saint, in Pietralata.
His spiritual children are entrusted with the community of Santa Maria Regina Apostolorum in the Delle Vittorie district, where this beautiful church is located.
The Italian-American 'Provincia' of the Union of the Catholic Apostolate founded by St. Vincent Pallotti, had a house in via Pettinari that was sold to the Generalate, then they bought a piece of land in Rome, to build a house for high school students.
The project was drawn up by the architect Carlo Lepri. In 1924 the first stone was laid. Finally in 1926 the new and large building in the neighborhood Della Vittoria could be inaugurated.
As there were no churches in the area, the Vicariate declared the chapel of the college as a public oratory. The college was dedicated to the Queen of the Apostles and the image of 'Pentecost and Our Lady' that the founder had commissioned to the roman painter Cesaretti was placed in the chapel.
As the number of the faithful grew more and more, it was decided to build, annexed to the college, a public church also dedicated to the Queen of the Apostles, which was inaugurated in 1935, in memory of the first centenary of the foundation of the Society
The house in via Ferrari is the center and heart of the Italian-American branch della Societa' Apostolica. Originally it was built for the students of Italy and the United States.
The church is simple but very welcoming.
It was inaugurated in 1935 and since its foundation it was entrusted to the Pallottine Fathers.
There are no works of art of great value but there is an intense human depth and spiritual vibration.
The Fathers organize numerous meeting and prayer activities, in particular for the little ones.
It is located a few minutes away from the metro A Lepanto stop and very close to Piazza Mazzini.
We will return.
