You don't need to spend much time. It's historical, but it's not a place you can spend time in. You can examine it while passing by.

I arrived to the pyramid of Rome with the panoramic bus Green Line, of the six companies of panoramic tpur of Rome, the Green Line is the only one that goes to the pyramid, with the orange line, I waited more than 1 hour to be able to board this line, to be able to go to the pyramid and see it, because I was curious, did not know that there was a pyramid in Rome and of a date before Christ, it is worth going at least to see, I did not get off the bus, because it is too long until the next. But it was worth it.

It was my entry point to historic Rome, coming from Citavechia and this time yes, this road led me to the Eternal City.

On the way to the Testaccio cemetery, I looked at two other sights of Rome - the San Paolo Gate and the Cestius Pyramid. It is thanks to the proximity of the gate and the Aurelian Wall that the pyramid has been preserved. During the construction of the walls in the III century, the pyramid was made one of the bastions and therefore it was not dismantled into stones later. Built between 18 and 12 BC, the pyramid was intended to be the tomb of Gaius Cestius Epulon. The shape of the pyramid is clearly explained by the influence of newly conquered Egypt. To motivate the heirs to build the tomb faster after his death, Cestius set the construction period at 330 days. Otherwise, they were disinherited. If the pyramid is standing, then the heirs have fulfilled the condition. Unlike the pyramids of Giza, the Cestius pyramid has a much sharper angle, because Roman concrete allowed this to be done, unlike the stone of ancient Egypt. Due to the fact that the Romans added lime to the concrete, the structure was self-healing, because the lime, when in contact with water, hardened and filled the cracks. This ensured the amazing durability of the structures. As in the Egyptian pyramids, there is nothing inside. Everything was stolen long ago. It remains to admire from the outside...

This is a Egyptian style pyramid structure located just beside Porta San Paolo and outside the Pyramide Metro and Porta San Paolo Rail Stations. It was built by the Romans between 18-12 BC as a tomb for Gaius Cestius and incorporated into the defensive Aurelian Wall. The pyramid is 37 metres tall and nearly 30 metres in length at the base.
It is worth making the stop here to have a brief look at the Cestia Pyramid as well as the impressive 3rd-century Porta San Paolo, especially if you are planning to see Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. You can conveniently add a quick stop here immediately before or afterwards as it is just two stops north on Metro Line B.

It looks great - but somehow doesn't fit harmoniously into the overall picture of Rome. But if you know the background, you can understand a little why this "foreign body" has its place here.
It must have been somehow chic in the past - if you imported something from a foreign culture - and could show off your wealth and status.
The rich Gaius Cestius built his tomb here.
It is probably around 2000 years old and, thanks to the restoration, is in remarkably good condition.

A pyramid-shaped mausoleum built at the end of the first century BC. It is located in the immediate vicinity of Porta San Paolo and is incorporated into the perimeter of the non-Catholic cemetery (18th and 19th centuries AD).
However, it seems like an intruder, a mistake among so many finds from ancient Rome.

The Egyptian-style pyramid was built to bury a Roman magistrate.
The construction is made of brick and marble.
It is located in the "Piramide" metro station.
A curiosity in Rome!

Taking advantage of the extraordinary free openings by the Special Superintendency of Rome it was possible to visit this pyramid-shaped Roman tomb inside.
Well done to the archaeologist Marco who guided us through the visit, making it 'alive and interesting' for the participants (including children).

Visited here as part of a Vespa tour around Roma. Wonderful view at night, in a busy area. I would certainly recommend a visit whist in Roma.

Hi as you have been to this amazing pyramid how do you contact the right people to arrange to visit the interior to make prior arrangements to view this as the visiting times are restricted.
I didn't go inside. There is a posting on the gate outside with an email or phone number you can use to arrange something. You may also try googling COOP Culture Piramide Cestia visit. I think visits can be arranged through the COOP culture website.

do you have to pay to get inside the Piramide Cestia if so can you pay when you are there or is it best to go online
The Pyramid's interior is only open to the public at certain, limited times. Go to the coopculture website (the same website for the Colosseum, I'd paste it here TripAdvisor will not let me include the link) and search for the Piramide Cestia. I'd certainly try to book in advance to make sure there will be a tour and, if so, that you get a slot. Otherwise some private tour companies or groups will sometimes schedule a tour.

Headed to Rome in October - is the pyramid still covered with scaffolding?
There was no scaffolding when we were there in June. Apparently you can go into it every so often. Might be worth researching which days those are in case you happen to be there at that time.
There is a cemetery to the rear of the site which is very attractive and you can walk through to the site whilst it's under construction. I would recommend that you visit around midday (that's when we visited) hope this helps
