Majestic and beautiful

The construction of this church began in 1137. in Roman style . It has no a main gate but it has two entrances with 2-2 marble lions. The entrance fee is 3 euros but it’s worth. The walls are decorated with frescos from 14th century eg. Last Supper, Madonna or Moses. They are very nice like huge precisious tapestries with episodes of Blessed Virgin Mary’s life. We also visited the tomb of the famous composer Donizetti. I think it’s a must-see sigth in Bergamo.

Basilica di Maria Maggiore is just wow!

The tapestries were amazing, one I noticed was a copy of the original painting. (The tapestry was folded up on the bottom left hand side revealing the original artwork ).There is some interesting renovation work going on at the front of the church. As for the frescoes and the art , well there are just so many things to see allow yourself some time and be wowed too !! Really worth the small entry fee .Time your visit between the multiple groups that are visiting , so you don't have to queue for too long. Plenty of cafes nearby if it seems really busy or go next door to the Capella coloni.

Molto bella , si vede che é di un età vecchia . Molto dettagliata e grande. Io lo farei vedere ad una persona che non sa che cosa a vedere a bergamo

Non si può mancare una visita a questa Basilica… spettacolari gli interni con stucchi, arazzi, intarsi di legno che sembrano pitture…gioiello imperdibile in questa splendida città…

Consiglio di non mancare una visita a questa Basilica, autentico gioiello religioso, artistico, culturale, storico. Può senz'altro essere annoverato fra le incomparabili bellezze che si trovano in molte città italiane.

An Afternoon in Città Alta - Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

The church is a very unique design but assembled inside is a surprisingly splendid collection of artwork, huge tapestries, and amazing woodwork. Admission is €3 but it is well worth it. The choir area is being restored and you can watch the workers as they restore the wood carvings and inlaid panels.

Risalente al XII sec, esterno romanico-lombardo, interno barocco. Maestosa ed imponente, costruita come ringraziamento per essere stati risparmiati dalla terribile epidemia di peste che colpì l'Europa nel 1100. Da subito grandiosa ed abbellita nei secoli successivi con meravigliosi affreschi, stucchi, arazzi e decorazioni in legno. All'interno inoltre è custodito il monumento funebre a Gaetano Donizetti, simbolo di Bergamo . Davvero imperdibile

Un gioiello in particolare gli arazzi e il coro ligneo. 3 euro di ingresso ma li vale tutti. Molto comoda e ben fatta l'autoguida raggiungibile con QR code.

Words can not describe this wonderful Basilica!!!
it worths the price, something around 3 euros, my eyes were completely lost in beauty, woodwork, tapestry, fresco and the blue colors!!
A breathtaking from Gothic to Romans !
