Affori is a historic neighborhood of Milan, in zone 9 (north). Its history has roots in the Middle Ages and developed as a fiefdom in the following centuries. It was a famous holiday resort in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for the wealthiest Milanese who spent their spring and summer holidays just outside the city. The village was famous for its silkworm culture and asparagus was a delicacy in local trattorias. Worth visiting is the beautiful park of Villa Litta, where Manzoni and Hayez were also regular guests. The church of Santa Giustina is pleasant. Leisure opportunities in the nearby Parco Nord and the local trattorias are excellent. Today Affori is a strategically located neighborhood, close to the city center and the hinterland, equipped with excellent services and transport. There are farmhouses, period buildings from the early twentieth century, villas and bourgeois houses, public housing from the sixties boom and beautiful recent condominiums. The neighborhood is very lively, inhabited by the popular soul of old Milan and together with second and third generation Milanese and foreign populations. More recently, young singles and families are moving there due to the quality of life and housing prices that are still acceptable. A beautiful Milanese neighborhood.
