If you go to the National Museum of the Mountain, adjacent, you can not exempt yourself from visiting it. If then, as happened to us, you are in the time of a religious service you have the opportunity to participate actively. The Capuchin friars who run it are also very active in the choir. Obviously that is not the right occasion for an exploration inside the architecture of the building, so much so that outside the door an explicit sign "function in progress", so better to wait for a moment when it does not disturb. It is, however, spectacular: the baroque decorations are striking, a table of the Madonna and Child above the high altar framed by a rich golden decoration and the interior of the dome. Its position dominates the city; from the square in front the view also extends to the circle of mountains that embrace Turin.

I think that 99% of people that climb to this church do it for the views that offers of the city of Turin.
Really, really are the most spectacular views you can have of Turin, and if you are luck and there is few people, something quite impossible, its so relaxing that you won't wnat to leave.
Its not quite hard to climb, but be prepared, and thake your time. And of course, your camera.

The Monte dei Cappuccini is a 325 m hill, in the Borgo Po' district, close to the Vittorio Emanuele I bridge and the Church of the Gran Madre di Dio. Here stands the Church of Santa Maria al Monte entrusted to the Capuchin Friars; the late Renaissance style with baroque interiors.
The Hill also hosts, in the south wing of the convent, the Duca degli Abruzzi National Mountain Museum and the National Library of the Italian Alpine Club. We, CAI members, who among other things come from the Gran Paradiso climb, could not miss this event. The view of Turin and the Po is beautiful.
In ancient times this Hill was obviously used for defensive purposes and the Romans were the first to dedicate it to a deity, Jupiter. The current complex of the Capuchin friars was begun in 1583 based on a design by the engineer. Soldiers, in Renaissance style. But the current result is due to various adjustments and reconstructions that have taken place over the centuries.

It was a hot day in March when we visited Turin and the climb up the hill was brutal but once at the top, and we'd got our breath back, it was totally worth it. The views were incredible and you got a whole new perspective on the city.

Located in one of the most panoramic points of Turin, next to the Mountain Museum.
Since the Middle Ages a small church dedicated to Mary had been built on the top of the mountain but only in 1584 did it begin to be transformed into the imposing structure we see today. The works were completed in 1637, the church is in the shape of a Greek cross and in pre-Baroque style with a particular dome with an octagonal drum. The tabernacle and all the wooden apparatus above the main altar are significant. Under the table of the altar of San Maurizio are the remains of Sant' Ignazio da Santhià.

From this terrace the panoramic view of the city framed by the profile of the Alps is fabulous.
The church located at the top of the mountain is surmounted by a dome with an octagonal drum and houses a beautiful high altar.
It's worth tackling the climb.

Of course, everyone comes here not for the sake of the church, but for the view that opens from the platform in front of it - all of Turin in full view, framed by mountains. And in the center the main symbol of the city is the Mole Antonelliana. I went here in the morning after a walk in Valentino Park. It was sunny, but at the end of November the mountains were covered with caps of snow. I would have liked to see this beauty in the evening, but there wasn’t much time in Turin. The road is not difficult to find, the climb up the hill is not tiring. When I went down (already on a different road), many asked how to get there.

Church located above a long climb, not too tiring to do. The view, once up, is spectacular. You can see the entire city with the mass that stands out above everything and the snow-capped Alps in the background. the interior of the church is very beautiful and evocative

Church dedicated to the Madonna of the Capuchin friars. In this church you can find the remains of Sant' Ignazio di Santhià. Next to the church there is the monastery in which some friars currently live who deal with both worship and assistance to the poor. In front of the church there is a car park and a magnificent viewpoint over the city of Turin.

Excellent view of Turin from the south of the city. View of the Po just below, of the whole city and of the Alps behind with a little sfumato effect as a bonus.
You will have understood that it is not so much the church that is worth the detour (there are more beautiful ones in town) but rather the view from the terrace just in front.
You have to climb a bit to get there but the result is worth it. That's wonderful.
Furthermore, this south side of the city is relaxing and quiet. It offers opportunities to have a drink or to eat peacefully after the day's visits in the pedestrian streets below the church. The reward after the climbing effort. We recommend
