Aosta is a very well livable city with a pedestrian center with many shops and as many restaurants, full of Romanesque history is worth a visit for history lovers but also for those who love the liveliness and walks as well as the beautiful nearby mountains and easily accessible both to find cool in summer and for winter sports.

A fairly compact old center, easy to walk around. There are signs and plans everywhere, just to navigate. The streets themselves are pretty, too.

Citizen that I did not like the center you visit in 5 minuti.Trasporti organized terrible no writing on the bus stops that end at 19.come with the car.

small old town that you can turn quietly in a day, shame to have found closed x restoration the Roman theater and 'arch of Augustus, very beautiful praetorian door and the collegata of St. Peter and Bear (with a visit to the attic and the priory)

There are several historical memories of Augusta Pretoria that we can still admire: the Theatre, the Arch of Augustus, the Porta Pretoria. Then history gives us, closer to us in time, the Collegiate Church of Sant'Orso and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. But the list could still be long.

Distance is a very nice town right next to the San Bernido tunnel and pass. From here you can easily reach the beautiful Mont Blanc lift, from which you have a fantastic view of the mountain and the surrounding area. An unforgettable experience.

We stopped for a walk before returning to Milan.
It was a Sunday and many shops in the center were closed. It's a shame because some deserved to be open for the many tourists who wandered around the central Chanoux Square and the narrow streets.
We managed to purchase some Aosta Valley specialties but not as much as we would have liked.
Numerous restaurants, bars and wine bars.
However, it was pleasant to do the whole walk up to the Porta Praetoria with a look towards the mountains.

The Old Town of Aosta is charming, full of Roman buildings, dominated by a huge town hall built in 1841, pedestrian only with cobbled streets - as well of course as having restaurants, bars, ice-cream parlours, etc.

Nothing to say about the city, which is very nice and cozy, or about the people who are always kind and helpful, however if you decide to go there to visit the markets then I don't recommend it: there are very few, with only 1 or 2 offering food.

I had been to see the Christmas markets in Aosta a few years ago and I found them nice and special, especially due to the location near the Arco Augusto, I went back on Sunday and apart from the carnage to park which already makes you lose your desire, everything was a real disappointment, a dozen wooden houses in front of a church with the usual junk that is otherwise very expensive. Not really worth the cost of the trip.

We will be planning a trip in early January and looking into visiting Aosta. I'm reading mixed reviews about activities/things to do/see in January. Will there be majority of shops/restaurants open during this time?

Hello, how long would it take to walk from the main train station to the Old Town, & a good café for coffee or lunch, eg Piazza Emile Chanoux? I am making a daytrip to Aosta by train in May & don't have much time between trains. I'm a fit walker. Is there a bus from the station to Old Town, to save time? Thanks,

Hello, as there’re were four of us with lots of luggage we got a taxi. Do not remember seeing a bus, however worth googling to check. From my recollection, I think the taxi took about 15-20 minutes and that was only to the outer area as the taxi could not drive in to the pedestrian cobblestone streets. It’s such a lovely place and worthwhile staying a couple of days, if not overnight. Enjoy your travels 😄
