A bit away from the tourist bustle is the Arsenal, the old military port and shipyard. A short detour here is worthwhile, as you can enjoy Venice without tons of tourists.

Very well organized spaces for the art Biennale, trained staff, excellent refreshment points with fresh and pleasant food, beautiful bookshop, very comfortable small electric caddy machines that support mobility.

Arsenale di Venezia, world famous and yet relatively unknown, inspired us to try to walk from Ospedale to Building Bridges and actually cross the whole of Arsenale.
That turned out to be no easy feat because parts of the historic Arsenale are in use by the Italian army and tourists are not welcome at all.
There also appears to still be commercial boat activity, but most of it forms the backdrop to the Venezia Biennale.
If you take the vaparetto you will sail along the walls of the historic Arsenale and a walking path has been built on the outside.
We eventually reached the south side of the archipelago via San Pietro di Castello.
All in all, a tough walk, but very educational in a lesser-known part of Venice.

Seen in passing, this area of Venice was the ancient heart of the workshops and shipbuilding industry in Venice. It represented at its best the power of the Serenissima in the Mediterranean.

During the winter this area still retains the feel of an Italian city, with life going on - people shopping, gossiping, drinking aperol. Clothing drying on washlines. The gardens are unremarkable but the old fortress-arsenal buildings are picturesque.

No news on the site, then you arrive in front of the entrance after walking a lot to find it (poor indications) and you find a sign that says: closed for holidays from 23 December 2023 to 7 January 2024, like us many other people have withdrawn disappointed , wasting a morning to reach it.

....get lost among picturesque streets and bridges until you reach little-frequented places.
The Arsenal of Venice is one of the symbolic places of the city. The history of this group of shipyards which occupies a large part of the city's surface tells of the most brilliant and glorious period of the Serenissima.

District in the far east of Venice. Many warehouses are being rehabilitated for the biennial. Quiet walk, beautiful buildings. The arsenal cannot be visited but you can admire the architecture.

Buen día, estaré en Venecia el 9 y 10 de septiembre y me gustaría visitar el Arsenal ya que tengo entendido existe algo llamado Bienal y existen esculturas y te permiten entrar, pero no he encontrado como comprar la entrada y los horarios. Solo encontré un tour que te dan por las instalaciones pero por el horario no se me acomoda. Me podrían comentar de favor como le hicieron para acceder, compraron ahí el boleto o es con anticipación, solo pidieron llegar a pie o el vaporetto tiene algún estación ahí.

It seems you will be out of luck for visiting the interior of the Arsenale. They are only open during Biennale (as of 13 May, to 26 Nov 2017). Close by is the interesting Naval History Museum (Castello), incl Peggy Guggenheim's gondola. There is enough to see in Venice, you will have to come back again for the Arsenale!

I think so but take a look in advance because its not open every day or any time. In fact i think they open it few times than any regular attraction so triple check before getting there.

Sorry but we went for the Bienale. My sense is that visiting at any time, even without the art fair, would be worth the time and effort. April will be less crowded. Enjoy your trip!
