Over the course of thirty years of his life, Marquis Maffei recovered hundreds of tombstones and inscriptions. The museum is in a beautiful two-story building and the pieces come from Roman and Etruscan excavations and also from Greece and Turkey. Once the visit is over, have the operator open the gate so you can admire the hundreds of stelae stacked in the courtyard. Truly remarkable.

I'm in Verona for a weekend immersed in 360-degree culture. After seeing an opera show in the Arena and a guided tour of the city, the day after my overnight stay in a structure not far from Piazza Bra, I had organized to visit the Maffeiano Lapidary Museum. I purchased the entrance ticket from the site at the price of €4.50, honestly very cheap. 5 minutes before the stroke of 10.00 in the morning, I find myself at the entrance to begin the visit. I was about to open the door and a boy who was talking amiably to a colleague urged me to go out immediately because the museum wasn't open yet (I repeat... there were 5 minutes to go and I was alone, there was no one else waiting). Incredulous, I wait outside like a dog watching the door for 5 minutes. At 10 o'clock they call me and make me sit down. The same boy tells me: 'since you're alone, I'll take you to the lift to go to the first floor, who's coming to see this museum anyway?!?' But what are these terms? Do you represent this place or not? when we reached the floor, he didn't say another word and at the end of the tour I was stumbling in the dark as to how to get out of there. I try to push the door unpleasantly, hoping that the alarm wouldn't go off. I end up on a large internal staircase with doors leading to offices. The route is not signposted and at the end of the fair I emerged again at the entrance without seeing the front garden as there was a barrier blocking access.

The overall visit experience. Disappointing because the staff seemed very lazy in doing things and welcoming visitors, meticulous because they made visitors like me who arrived 5 minutes early wait in front of the door.

L'accesso è gratis se si è in possesso della Verona card. Questo piccolo museo si trova ad un passo da piazza Bra. Il museo ospita una ricca collezione lapidaria greca, etrusca e romana.

Oggi pomeriggio avevo un'ora e mezza di tempo prima di rientrare a casa in treno e allora ho deciso di visitare il museo maffeiano. C'ero già passato tempo fa per prendere informazioni sugli orari ma nessuno mi aveva detto che, strano ma vero, non c'è la biglietteria e che il biglietto bisogna comprarlo all'Arena o a Castelvecchio, luoghi entrambi non lontani ma neppure attaccati a questo museo. Così sono andato alla biglietteria dell'Arena dove, per fortuna non c'erano molte persone davanti a me. Il motivo per cui le persone erano poche è che all'Arena c'è una biglietteria per gli spettacoli e una per i turisti che vogliono vedere internamente il monumento. Ovviamente ho sbagliato biglietteria e sono andato a quella degli spettacoli; ecco perché c'era poca gente in fila (la stagione degli spettacoli quest'anno è praticamente finita). La gentile ragazza di quella biglietteria non ha capito subito la mia richiesta e ci ha messo un po' prima di focalizzarsi sul fatto che lei non era la bigliettaia giusta. Così mi ha segnalato l'altra biglietteria, che è da tutt'altra parte, dove però c'erano in fila per acquistare il biglietto per visitare l'arena circa un centinaio di persone, ovvero come minimo tre quarti d'ora di coda.
Ma qualcuno mi può spiegare il senso di avere all'Arena due biglietterie distinte, una delle quali (quella degli spettacoli) a fine ottobre vuota e l'altra con decine di persone perennemente in fila da mattina a sera? E poi perché il museo maffeiano, che comunque stipendia una persona per controllare e strappare i biglietti acquistati altrove, non dà a questa persona un pos per vendere i biglietti con il bancomat, se proprio non vogliono dargli la responsabilità di gestire il contante? Per quei tre turisti al mese che visitano quel museo lo potrebbero pure fare.
Non mi sono messo in fila per acquistare il biglietto all'Arena perché non avevo tempo, ed essendo il tempo a mia disposizione terminato non sono andato nemmeno a Castelvecchio a vedere se riuscivo a comperare più velocemente il biglietto per il maffeiano.
Se una volta all'anno passa per Verona uno straniero appassionato di lapidi antiche, che cosa penserà del museo maffeiano che non solo non vende biglietti, ma non espone neanche un cartello all'esterno per comunicare dove comprarli?
Ma qualcuno mi può spiegare il senso di avere all'Arena due biglietterie distinte, una delle quali (quella degli spettacoli) a fine ottobre vuota e l'altra con decine di persone perennemente in fila da mattina a sera? E poi perché il museo maffeiano, che comunque stipendia una persona per controllare e strappare i biglietti acquistati altrove, non dà a questa persona un pos per vendere i biglietti con il bancomat, se proprio non vogliono dargli la responsabilità di gestire il contante? I loved it. Small but good. I was alone in the museum, maybe that helps with the experience. I can fully recommend this place to anyone

Museo voluto nel 1738 dall'appassionato di storia : il marchese Scipione Maffei.
Poco pubblicizzato, si trova all'inizio di Piazza Brà, a destra guardando la Porta Brà.
Si passa un androne e si arriva in un cortile con un bellissimo palazzo con colonnato altissimo.
All'interno , in un piccolo museo, si possono ammirare epigrafi etrusche, romane e greche.

Ci sono andato con la mia fidanzata per vedere un qualcosa che non vedi tutti i giorni e incuriositi abbiamo comprato il biglietto insieme all'ingresso della arena di Verona, ambiente sicuramente molto accurato e pulito, personale molto serio, unica pecca che anche fermandosi a leggere le note a fianco delle cose in mostra in tempo massimo mezz'ora l'hai già girato tutto senza correre e con molta calma, secondo me non ne vale la pena se non per una persona molto acculturato che non può fare a meno di vedere tutti i musei della zona.
