The museum has many rooms and I must say that in addition to a decent art gallery I was enchanted by looking at some very beautiful stuccoed ceilings.

We had sat outside the building and we thought it was a glorified civic office. We visited it on teh second day having found out it was a gallery
A lot to see between 2 wings and 2 floors
As ever some of the displays are wonderful, some not so interesting, but overall a really great place to visit

In the mid-16th century, Count Girolamo Chiericati commissioned Andrea Palladio to design a prestigious noble residence, to be built in Vicenza on the right bank of the Bacchiglione. The count had great admiration for the architect: a few years earlier he had strongly insisted that the local authorities choose Palladio's project for the renovation of the Palazzo della Ragione.
To make room for the new building, some old houses owned by the client were demolished. The count died a few years after the work began; his son Valerio concentrated above all on the decoration of the internal rooms, so in 1580, when Palladio also passed away, the external parts were still far from being finished. Due to wars, lack of funds and other various problems, the palace could only be completed a century later. However, thanks to the detailed drawings left by the great artist, his successors were able to scrupulously respect his wonderful project.
In the 19th century the municipality of Vicenza purchased the palace from the Chiericati family, restored it, demolished some nearby buildings to improve its usability and made it the seat of the prestigious Civic Museum which still occupies the structure today. The great historical and artistic value of the building was recognized by UNESCO, which in 1994 included it in its list of World Heritage Sites.
The general appearance of the building recalls the eclectic Renaissance style of the famous Palladian villas. The sumptuous façade is divided into two levels, both dominated by as many rows of columns with Doric (bottom) and Ionic (top) capitals. A central forepart, not too pronounced, admirably interrupts the rhythm of the façade which would otherwise be rather monotonous. On the upper level the forepart is enriched with a harmonious series of five windows with alternating gables (sometimes triangular, sometimes lunette) surmounted by small square windows. On the sides of the facade, still on the upper level, there are two airy loggias which extend onto the lateral sides through splendid round arches. A substantial stringcourse adorned with a pillared balustrade separates the lower level from the upper one, while a splendid cornice embellished with wisely alternating statues and pinnacles crowns the entire façade. A base about one meter high (similar to that of Greek temples) gives prominence to the entire building, while protecting it from the frequent flooding of the nearby watercourse. At the entrance, a wide staircase allows you to easily overcome the difference in height.
The rooms of the Civic Museum host a rich collection of paintings and sculptures, mostly from the Venetian school, gradually enriched both by the continuous bequests of local noble families and by works from nearby churches where they could not be considered safe. I cannot go into a long list of all the masterpieces on display here; I limit myself to mentioning the paintings of Paolo Veronese (Madonna and Saints), Giovan Battista Tiepolo (The Immaculate Conception), Tintoretto, Cima da Conegliano, Canaletto. Among artists not from the Venetian school I mention Anton Van Dick and Hans Memling. For those interested, I would also like to point out an exhibition of ancient coins and an interesting collection of vintage toys.
As regards visiting hours and entrance ticket prices, I recommend you consult the websites dedicated to the structure.

In 1550, Palladio began the design of the palace commissioned by Count Girolamo Chiericati. At that time, the current Piazza Matteotti was an island among the city's rivers, so Palladio designed Palazzo Chiericati on a small hill. As you can see, the entire first floor is occupied by a loggia. There are side loggias on the second floor. Now there is a "Museo Civico", which has a very decent collection of paintings. In particular, here you can see several paintings by Montagna, which is rare to be found in other museums, and even more rare by Buonconcillo, whose "Pieta" is considered a recognized masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance.

This is a wonderful museum with many good paintings. There was a special exhibition on when we went, which was a bonus. Good descriptions of the rooms on panels in every room, with english translations which made it really easy. The staff here were very helpful and welcoming.
