I agree with what others have said. If you see one thing in Messina this is it. This is one of the most incredible clocks like this in the world. Initially we got there on the hour and the tower was closed. We only saw a couple of statues move. Later ln we were walking past the clock and the door was open so we paid to walk up to the top. We spent at least an hour there and I can't remember what time it was on a Sunday but the entire clock went off with us standing inside watching at every level as we ran up and down the stairs. The bells were huge and loud. I would not make a special trip to Messina to see it but if you take the ferry over from the mainland to Sicily it is definitely worth a stop and also see the Duomo next door. Plus there is good views from the top.

We took a bus tour around Messina not much to see. Then at the end watched the noon show at the clock. It was great! Considering how old it is and what it does its wonderful. We have seen clock in prague and thought this one is better!

What a magnificent clock tower. Its beautiful to look at insied and out. Great views from the top and beautiful to see inside all the mechanical parts. Well worth the climb. Its paired brilliantly at the right time (lunch time) with the clock in action. A big crowd enjyed the fantastic lion and other moving parts.
You can also get a ticket to go into the Cathedral museum, also worthy of a look at some of the fine pieces of history.

Visited the square to see the clock tower at 12 noon.
Beautifully embellished tower.
At 12 o’clock noon there is a 12 minute display of important happening in the history of Messina.
We’ll with a visit.
Nothing else of interest in the City - disappointed with the visit.

The bell tower sits majestically in Messina and is quite impressive. The views it provides are also excellent. We definitely enjoyed our time here

Looks really impressive, but the clock doesn't really do a lot. Nice building and lovely square to sit in the shade for a while.

It is a really beautiful tower with amazing view. If you can only visit one thing, this should be it. Also, the calendar/click is super interesting. As you climb the tower, they explain everything on info posters. We climbed it with a 5 years old boy, he really liked it as well.

In the facade overlooking the churchyard are the astronomical mechanisms. In the 3rd floor, a sphere symbolizing the moon globe, half golden and half black, which evolves daily following the moon phases. It rotates around its axis, and, to make a complete turn, it takes 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and three seconds, exactly how long the moon takes for its rotation. On the 2nd floor, a planetarium consisting of a large ring of 3.50 meters that reproduces the solar system with the orbits of the planets around the sun and the figures of the zodiac. On the 1st floor, the perpetual calendar of 3.50 m in diameter with concentric circles, marked with the 365 days of the year and on the inner side the twelve months. In the center the sun shines and, above, there are three semicircular stars. A marble angel, placed on the left side, with an arrow indicates the current year, month and day. The date changes automatically at midnight and a mechanism allows use in both normal and leap years. All the technical part was conceived by Frédéric Klinghammer while the artistic part by Theodore Ungerer and the mechanisms, in part, echo those of the Strasbourg astronomical clock.
The show is more beautiful to see than to tell. The Clock Tower can be visited. Going up you will not only enjoy a beautiful view of the city but you can also observe the mechanisms and statues up close. A very special point of view that I Recommendation you not to miss.

Gli orari di apertura cambiano a seconda dei mesi dell’anno. Le conviene controllare sul sito internet ufficiale o contattare direttamente la struttura. In inverno è generalmente chiuso per avverse condizioni meteo.
