Fantastische manier om te leren hoe Siena kon groeien als concurrent van Florence door een innovatieve, unieke manier van watervoorziening voor de hele stad door middel van een tunnel systeem van 25 km.
Informatief en interactieve tentoonstelling, wel vooraf boeken, beperkt aantal plaatsen beschikbaar per tijdstip.
Zou een ‘must see’ moeten zijn in Siena. Waardig om toegevoegd te worden als Unesco wereld erfgoed.

Luogo poco reclamizzato...ne ho sentito parlare solo dalla trasmissione "paesi che vai"..ma che merita una visita per la straordinarieta' dei bottini scavati nel terreno di Siena da prima ancora del medioevo...pensare che abbiano non solo scavato ma poi lavorato e vigilato per mantenere in uso per secoli un'opera del genere e' veramente strabiliante !!
Il museo e' stato riaperto da poco e' alcune esposizioni non sono state ancora rese disponibili al pubblico...ma la nostra guida e' stata esplicativa e disponibile. Anche l'esterno meriterebbe piu' cura (l'erba sulla gradinata discendente alle vasche non era tagliata) e non solo in occasione di eventi.
Un luogo sicuramente da visitare e una straordinaria particolarita' della citta'
Il museo e' stato riaperto da poco e' alcune esposizioni non sono state ancora rese disponibili al pubblico...ma la nostra guida e' stata esplicativa e disponibile. Anche l'esterno meriterebbe piu' cura (l'erba sulla gradinata discendente alle vasche non era tagliata) e non solo in occasione di eventi.

Molto interessante e guida/accompagnatrice preparata e gentile! Vale la visita ma è meglio prenotare perché vi si accede a gruppi di max 10 persone

Bravi Bravi! museo originale, coinvolgente e super interessante!
L'esperienza si articola in una visita guidata al museo dove si può assistere ai racconti della guida e a filmati e racconti supportati da bellissimi modelli 3D e multimediali che spiegano la geologia, la storia, l'architettura e le curiosità dei bottini di Siena; nella seconda parte della visita la guida ci conduce all'interno di uno dei bottini e alla fonte della pescaia.
Non è stato necessario prenotare perchè le visite guidate partivano ogni 2 ore circa, non so se nei periodi di minor affluenza è invece necessaria la prenotazione.
L'esperienza si articola in una visita guidata al museo dove si può assistere ai racconti della guida e a filmati e racconti supportati da bellissimi modelli 3D e multimediali che spiegano la geologia, la storia, l'architettura e le curiosità dei bottini di Siena; nella seconda parte della visita la guida ci conduce all'interno di uno dei bottini e alla fonte della pescaia.

Simpatico e suggestivo piccolo museo che racconta di come Siena sia riuscita nel tempo a sviluppare un sistema idraulico efficiente.
Spiegazioni multimediali ed elementi da toccare dal vivo, mi ha particolarmente colpito un plastico del territorio interattivo della prima sala. É un'ottima alternativa dopo aver visitato piazze e chiese.
Peccato per la posizione fuori città e gli orari/giorni un po' restrittivi.
Complimenti alla guida, che é riuscita ad immergerci nella storia "idrica" di Siena!

Una visita da fare assolutamente.
Un museo multimediale che si fruisce in modo 'guidato', noi tramite Serena che vogliamo davvero ringraziare per la competenza e la cortesia e per come ha reso interessante il nostro tour.
Scoprirete come, per supplire alla cronica carenza di acqua del territorio di Siena, durante il Medioevo siano stati intrapresi lavori per intercettare le falde acquifere e canalizzare in cunicoli sotterranei le acque provenienti da sorgenti distanti.
Queste gallerie per l'approvvigionamento idrico sono gli ingegnosi bottini, costruiti nel XIII - XV secolo ed estesi per circa 25 km, e fino al 1914 unico acquedotto di Siena. Lo sviluppo, la grandezza e la storia della città sono strettamente collegati quindi all'esistenza dei bottini, che sono ancora in funzione alimentando attualmente fonti (Fonte Gaia, Fontebranda, Fonte d'Ovile, Fonte Nuova d'Ovile, etc.) e fontane.
Dopo il museo si visita il bottino che alimenta le Fonti di Pescaia.
Per completare l'opera noi ci siamo poi fatti, in modo autonomo, il giro di tutte le fonti cittadine visitabili.... molto carino davvero!
Suggerisco al Comune di aumentare le attività di marketing intorno a questo museo speciale, sia presso le scuole sia a livello dell'offerta museale cittadina studiata per i privati.

un piccolo museo che però vale la pena di visitare perché ben strutturato e visitabile, su appuntamento, grazie all'ausilio di guide esperte e particolarmente gentili

Un museo multimediale unico che spiega l'acqua, i suoi percorsi e la storia dell'acqua e dei Bottini di Siena. Peccato che spesso alcune istallazioni non siano funzionanti

This excellent museum is located outside of the city walls and in a three storey building that sits above the Pescaia water source. There is limited parking nearby. The museum was opened in 2010 and seeks to use a range of excellent multimedia devices including mechanical installations, video projectors, TV monitors, different coloured lighting, broadcasting, audio and sensory systems to tell the amazing story of how the Sienese people from the 1300's until 1914 supplied water to this hilltop city which had no direct access to a river and no external aqueduct.
We used the internet to book tickets to visit this museum and they cost EUR 10-00 per adult. I understand that tours are only run at certain times because the guides are largely volunteers. Our guide, Serena, was very good and spoke some English but preferred to speak in Italian. Unfortunately all of the written descriptions, video and audio are in Italian. The fact that my wife spoke some Italian helped us to greatly enjoy the visit although, to be fair, some of the exhibits were so good they were almost self explanatory.
The tour is spread over the three floors of the building before you go down into one of the tunnels for a short walk. There were over 30 steps between each of the floors and further steps down to the tunnels and I did not see a lift so wheelchair access would be difficult. The tour lasted over an hour.
Siena's entire ancient water supply system is an amazing engineering feat and stretches for about 25 kilometres through tunnels, called Bottini, that were excavated into the sandstone and other rock under the city to join up major water sources. The Bottini captured the rain water that seeped through the sandstone, captured it and then supplied it to various water fountains and sources around the city. One of the exhibits shows how the workmen used ancient tools and instruments to get the required slopes so that the water could flow downhill and to accurately find the various fountains.around the city.
The Bottini and the associated tunnels and fountains were Siena's only water supply system up until 1914 when a new aqueduct was built to direct water from the Vivo springs to the city. However it took another four years before the majority of the houses in the town had running tap water. The aqueduct was bombed during WWII so the Sienese went back to using water from the Bottini until the aqueduct was repaired.
Well worth a visit.
I understand that longer tours that just involve exploring the underground Bottini are periodically held but you need to ask in advance when these are to be as they sell out fast.

Un viaggio multimediale alla scoperta dei bottini di Siena realizzato anche grazie alla collaborazione con il grandissimo Paco Lanciano (storico collaboratore di Piero Angela).
La vista guidata è stata molto interessante e interattiva, una tappa fondamentale per la conoscenza di Siena, come il Duomo e piazza del Campo.
Spero che questo sito avrà la possibilità di essere conosciuto e visitato sempre di più.
