Le opere sono ospitate nella Chiesa di Santa Maria sopra Minerva

Sull'Altare maggiore, simbolo del natale, della nascita, trionfa "Avvento", un trittico di grandi dimensioni, che vuole donarci l'immagine della Sacra Famiglia, tema caro a santo Francesco che ideo la prima rappresentazione a Greccio. La particolarità del trittico edata dalla figura del Bambino rappresentato a forma di tau e realizzato con un sacco di iuta che ricorda Francesco e il suo saio. A destra del tamburo d'ingresso, entrando, si può vedere l'altra opera, un tonfo di centocinquanta centimetri di diametro, "Ha generato Dio", in quest'opera desidero restituire alla figura della Madonna la centralità che questa occupa all’interno della storia spirituale dell’Occidente: vedere in Maria la mater Dei, colei che, per l’appunto, genera Dio. Comprendere il significato più autentico di questo evento divino della nascita e restituire all’icona di Maria la propria fondamentale natura di principio teologico irrinunciabile.
Maria si pone all'inizio della vicenda divina, è garante del compimento, Maria è colei che genera.

La Chiesa sorta dentro il Tempio di Minerva con il Pronao conservato in cui in periodo natalizio ha sede un presepe gigante e’ una chiesa piccola e semplice ma raccolta. Il pezzo forte e’ la torre dell’orologio con in cima la Campana con inciso sopra il Cantico dei Cantici. Una vista stupenda su Assisi

Unexpectedly, this ancient Roman facade houses a 16th century church inside. It’s a curious and fascinating contrast.
From the piazza, you see the substantial remains of the Roman temple. Six towering Corinthian columns, dating back to the 1st century BC, dominate the facade and look like something straight out of the Roman Forum.
This was the Temple of Minerva, built in the years around 28-25 BC and dedicated to the pagan goddess of wisdom.
However this is just a shell. Step through the doors and you find yourself in a completely different space. Inside, is a highly decorated and ornate church. The Baroque ceiling and high altar are all frescoes and golden cherubs. In 1539, Pope Paul III visited Assisi and ordered that the Temple of Minerva be preserved and restored and that a church dedicated to Mary, be constructed within.
The church is not big so this is only a short visit. Most tourists will walk right past it because its on the way to the Basilica of St Francis. It is only a 10-15 minute walk to the basilica.
Entry is free.

This church built on a Roman Temple is truly beautiful! The frescoes are gorgeous and the entire layout very inspiring.

The Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva was built in 1539 but the outer shell of the ancient Roman temple with its six Corinthian columns dates back to the 1st Century BC,. Inside is interesting but not as elaborate as some churches

Mi sono innamorata già prima ancora di vederla dal vivo, possente e imperiale, non a caso patrimonio dell'umanità. All'interno ancora di più: dettagli e gli affreschi sono qualcosa di meraviglioso. Consiglio a tutti di andarla a visitare

Fuori la forza di un tempio pre-Cristo, con le sue possenti colonne; dentro la ricchezza decorativa di una chiesa cattolica. E' una delle attrazioni più originali visitabili ad Assisi, in pieno centro, nel cuore della piazza principale. Interessante.

Temple of Minerva, was built in 30 BC. and was originally dedicated to Hercules. Six massive Corinthian columns in the front testify to its ancient origin. I was really impressed by these ancient columns. Among the medieval architecture, the facade of this temple looked strange, as if this building was from another world.
In the late Middle Ages, the Roman temple became the Christian church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva with a bell tower called "Torre del Popolo".
The interior is richly decorated, the ceiling is very nice. Free entry.

Veramente fantastica seconda solo alla Basilica di San Francesco. Dimensioni molto ridotte ma estremamente bella.Abbondanti decori e affreschi.Sicuramente la spiritualità è inferiore ad altre basiliche di Assisi ma a volte l'occhio detta legge e qui l'esplosione dei colori ne fanno un luogo capolavoro.
