A Hidden Gem

Groningen is an unknown gem in the Netherlands. A beautiful small city with wonderful architecture, beautiful canals and wonderful shops. A must see.

This main station was built in a time of exuberance, probably to celebrate that the northern city was connected to the rest of the country. A brilliant piece of architecture, fully decorated.

A very easy station to navigate all on one level so great for people with mobility problems. Obviously signage in Dutch but you can work out where you are or need to be...

Tickets can be purchased from machines we had prepaid.. bus station right out side. It's clean. Starbucks on site so somewhere to sit while waiting. Staff we met spoke English and were very happy to help.

Mérite le coup d'oeil

Le bâtiment par ses dimensions et sa décoration rétro mérite le coup d'oeil. Par contre les consommations au Starbuks sont un peu onéreuses pour une qualité moyenne.

A classic Dutch train station

Although there is modernization of the building, the station itself still shows its original shape. Things are well organized and people are well-informed.

Great looking train station with history, a grocery store and some restaurants inside. Next to bus station which makes it easy to transfer.

Antica stazione

Senza dubbio una delle stazioni più belle nei Paesi Bassi, pur non essendo una nazione a corto di stazioni antiche e pittoresche. Realizzato nel 1896, l’edificio è stato ideato dall’architetto Izaak Gosschalk per includere sia elementi neogotici che neorinascimentali. Oggi la stazione accoglie sia treni che autobus, molto pratici per raggiungere i villaggi e le piccole città nelle vicinanze di Groninga. Nella grande piazza proprio davanti all’edificio si trova la famosa statua “Peerd van Ome Loeks”, un buon punto di ritrovo e d’incontro per chi vuole accogliere qualcuno appena arrivato a Groninga in treno/autobus.
