Le requiem de Verdi chanté et dansé à la fois me faisait à vrai dire un peu peur... Mais rien de tout cela. C'est à une grande et belle production que nous avons assisté.

Don’t ever buy tickets and attend the Amsterdam Opera House, unless you enjoy watching violence, rape, aggression and any other vulgar interpretation of any opera performance you can think of.
Take the example of Handle’s Julius Caesar - currently performed in Amsterdam.
Neither the music, nor the text suggest portraying the performance you will see: nothing but raw aggression, rape, vulgar interpretation of it. Violence is the exclusive name of the game for this director!
Why does Amsterdam opera favours such interpretations is beyond me!
When I came out in the break I saw a little girl coming out of THIS performance, with her mother, leaving of course! They actually, let a 6 years old little girl sit and watch raw rape scenes and unwarranted violence scenes, without warning her mum what to expect during this dreadful, violent performance!
if this is not outrageous, I really don’t know what is!
I am a grown up, but could not stomach it myself!
Amsterdam Opera’s direction favours interpretations like this, because I myself have seen quite a few of them over the years.
I have decided never to risk it again - wasting money on a ticket - and then either suffer through the whole performance, or - like now - leaving it at the first opportunity, during the break…
Never again, and as far as I am concerned, the best advice I can give is - to avoid attending Amsterdam Opera all together! No point taking the risk…

We saw Puccini's Turandot and it was simply exquisite. Seats, sound, all excellent. An unusual thing to notice. The cloakroom is brilliant and the 'curtain system' should be copied by all similar venues.

First time we saw a ballet at this venue and it was a really enjoyable experience! Not only was the performance stunning, but also the venue: cleverly designed, sufficient space in the foyers at each level. Well-organized bars for snacks/drinks during intermissions. Well-organized cloakroom. Did not feel crowded despite the performance having been sold out.
Inside the auditorium spacious comfortable seats, great acoustics.
Location right at the center of Amsterdam, easily reachable by metro. Car parks are also close-by, make sure to reserve a spot beforehand.

We bought last minute tickets to see Königskinder by Humperdinck on a weekend stay in Amsterdam. The Opera house is lovely. The seats are comfortable the staff helpful and the bar is well staffed. We ordered interval drinks. We would recommend a visit to the Opera if you are very keen on music. The seat prices are comparable to the prices in the UK.

I’m so glad we made a point to see a ballet here. The venue is beautiful, with plenty of outdoor balcony space to step outside and enjoy views of Amsterdam between sets! Our seats were comfortable, and although seated far from the stage, still enjoyed unobstructed views of the full stage. The orchestra sounded wonderful, great acoustics!

Wederom een fijne middag bij het Nationaal Ballet. Uitstekende service: bij entree een snelle QR check, heerlijk rustige sfeer, prima service aan de bar en de dames en heren in de zaal zijn zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam.

Национальную оперу в Амстердаме мы посетили случайно-на автомашине искали паркинг-оказывается под зданием оперы находится многоуровневая автопарковка и по довольно сносной цене и это в центре Амстердама!!!

De voorstelling Dancing Apart Together door het nationale ballet was in een woord geweldig! De aaneenschakeling van de verschillende korte stukken van verschillende choreografen, laat maar weer eens zien dat Nederland blij moet zijn met dit balletgezelschap en dit moet koesteren.
Het slot was erg indrukwekkend. Alle dansers tegelijk op het podium. Applaus!

I am thinking on booking a ticket for the Cinderella Opera this December, the affordable ticket available is in the last row of the second balcony, will my legs fit? I am 190cms tall 6'2". I had a very bad time at the Palais Garnier amphitheater section.

Even a bad opera here will be good as the sound quality is excellent and the surroundings are to die for.

Hi Karoline, it depends on the type of tickets you buy, ballet tickets range from €15 to €86 and opera from €18 to €165. There are discounts for students and young audiences. Check the website for the exact prices.

There is no dress code. You will see a mix of people dressed up in formal suits and gowns as well as people in jeans. I highly recommend booking a site tour prior to your event. The tour lasts over an hour and provides a lot of details about the venue, the opera and ballet company etc. It is inexpensive and well worth your time. I also recommend attending a performance at the Concertgebouw. it is a wonderful hall and very welcoming - free wine - beer - cookies are offered before the performance and at the intermission. Enjoy your stay!
