Beautiful experience

I dont really understand why this church isnt that famous among the attractions of the city - its extremely beautiful inside, the decoration the engraving the colours..There was a feeling of tranquility, it felt really good..We are Muslims so it was clear we didnt come to pray but the priest was very welcoming. A woman asked us not to sit on the chairs because a prayer (or something like that) was about to start but another kind man insisted that we do and gave us candles to hold..A very underrated place, I think its for this reason that entrance is free, which surprised me at the time but made me feel lucky!

Beautiful Church, helpful staff

We found this church and an extremely helpful docent who spent about 20 minutes showing us around and pointing out the major works of religious art.

The interior is much more interesting than the other churches we visited and an added bonus was, it was free!

Incredible Jewel of Beauty

Amazing example of neo-gothic architecture. Beautiful church with a very welcoming staff. They give amazing tours FOR FREE. No matter your reason or relationship with God or churches, you will feel welcomed. This is indeed a special place worth a visit.

Πανέμορφη εκκλησία, αξίζει μια επίσκεψη!

Ήταν μια έκπληξη αυτή η εκκλησία!τόσο όμορφη που δεν το περιμέναμε. Υπέροχος εσωτερικός διάκοσμος και το κυριότερο, χωρίς τουρίστες όπως οι πιο κεντρικές εκκλησίες, απολαμβάνεις την κατανυκτική ατμόσφαιρα με ησυχία.

Nice church

Roman catholic church from 1881 with a neo gothic interior , big and very nice. Was open and even has a free guide. Nice colours inside out.

Westerkerk pales in comparison

2019年10月

Westerkerk is often recommended as a place to visit due to the Westertoren clock tower that, once climbed, offers aerial views of the Jordaan neighborhood and Prinsengracht. However, with an a fee of €7 to climb the tower and an interior that some may describe as uninspiring, an alternative may be sought.

Walk 12 mins towards Singel to find De Krijtberg Kerk - A Roman Catholic church from 1881. De Krijtberg Kerk may not have a clock tower to climb but it's Neo-Gothic interior is far more impressive and dramatic. We were astounded by it's lavish and colourful decor, painted and gilded wood carvings, and many, many statues. Westerkerk pales in comparison.

Stained glass

Just in luck. The church is open. Some churches don’t have real candles anymore but I’m in luck, here are candles which I can light. The rays of sunlight hit the stained glass. It all looked amazing. Very beautiful.

Verborgen neogotisch 'juwelendoosje' midden in Amsterdam

De Krijtberg is een schitterende en vrij onbekende plek in hartje Amsterdam. Een zeer rijk maar volkomen harmonieus kerkinterieur mengt kleuren van schilderwerk, licht via de hoge ramen en de rijke glans van edelmetaal tot een wonderlijk palet. Totaal anders dan veel van de rest van de 'Hollandsche' monumenten in de rest van de stad. Geen groter contrast mogelijk met de ingetogen protestantse kerken in de stad. Zeer de moeite om ook hier eens binnen te stappen en te genieten van dit perfect onderhouden 19e eeuwse 'gesamtkunstwerk' van architectuur, schildering, glas en beeldhouwwerk. Weinig gebouwen hebben zo de horizontale lijn te pakken in hun interieur. Een zeer geslaagd ontwerp van architect Tepe. Prachtig!

Very beautiful....

We didn’t get to see the inside but the outside was very beautiful! We had taken a late night walk and ended up walking by. It is such a beautiful place that it even caught the attention of my grandchildren!
