Do this tour! It really brought to life the history of the time. I never heard about this but it was recommended to me by a friend and I’m so glad we did it. We took the train from Amsterdam. Super easy! (Don’t drive! Parking is crazy in Haarlam too). The guides were very informative and pleasant. We enjoyed walking around Haarlam after the tour. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.

Very informative and moving tour

The fact you can actually see the room where Jewish people and resistance fighters hid in this house during Nazi raids, as well as the photos of the Ten Boom family showing how they lived here, really makes this remarkable and sad history not a distant story but something very close and present. Our guide did a fantastic job of telling us all about the family and what they did, and I was amazed to learn of their kindness, bravery and moral fortitude in the face of such brutality, as well as moved to hear some of the personal stories of the people they saved.

Travel back in time

We visited the ten Boom museum with our kids aged between 8 and 13. Our lovely tour guide (Marguite) did an fabulous job keeping everyone, including our younger kids, interested and involved. It's an amazing story of a very brave family hiding Jews during the war. It's fascinating seeing the house and furniture from the past and chilling to see our children crawling into the hiding place, making history come alive. A must visit in Haarlem.
(I see many people commented on the religious messages weaved into the story. I personally didn't mind as it gave a clearer picture of the family and a deeper understanding of what motivated them.)

Amazing visit!
2021年7月
We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to see first hand the hiding place. Very surreal to be in the living room, the bedroom, and have our kids crawl through the hidden entrance in the tiny hiding place. Tour guide was wonderful and very informative. Free tour that accepts donations. We bought a DVD and some books for the kids to read that they finished before our weekend trip to Amsterdam was complete. Highly recommend this tour. Book in advance as they have limited openings, and very worth hearing this moving story of love, sacrifice and courage.

Embarrassing for the beautiful city of Haarlem

A very questionable, condescending, and highly subjective tour guide. This is run by a Zionist organisation, which I didn’t know before, so you will be preached at for an hour.
For the sake of this brave family and their story; this place should be given over to professional historians in order to tell the story as objective as possible.

Indrukwekkende geschiedenis

The Hiding Place
2020年3月
We read "The Hiding Place" as a family before our vacation and this was a must see for us! It is best to book ahead online, because there are only a few tours each day with a limited number of people able to go on each tour. It is a free tour staffed with volunteers and donations are appreciated. We all enjoyed our tour very much, but as we moved through as a group, weren't always able to see everything that was on display. Still an amazing story of a brave family!

Excellent experience

This is more than a museum. It is the story of a family who's strong faith in their Lord Jesus led them to join the underground efforts in the Netherlands during WWII.

The museum staff gives an excellent overview of the Ten Boom family's story based off of Corrie's book, "The Hiding Place." I appreciated how the tour focused on the family's deep values as Christians who sought to protect those who were wrongfully treated.

If I am ever through the Netherlands, I will go back again without question! Admission is free. Reservations are recommended, but if there is room on the tour, you can be added on the spot.

Inspirational story
2020年2月
Visiting the Corrie ten Boom house is free. There are regular tours. You can just turn up, as I did, or book ahead online. You'll be told about the life of Corrie ten Boom and her siblings. She and her older sister took the decision to hide Jewish Haarlemers in an ingeniously partitioned room. They were caught but the people they were sheltering were not. Corrie lived to tell the tale, but her older sister died just before the liberation of the concentration camp they were sent to. Corrie then lived until the age of 91. She isn't buried in Haarlem though - she died in California. It's certainly interesting to see a piece of such important history and a testament to such bravery and self-sacrifice. The house has been furnished so as to look as much like the house Corrie and her sister lived in during WWII. Essentially you see 4 rooms - the living room, hiding room, a gallery of related artefacts and the dining room. The tour lasts about an hour. It's informative, but if you find being proselytised difficult to take, this may not be for you.
