This is an amazing living history museum. I highly recommend it for Christians and Jews of all countries. The courage the Ten Boom family displayed is so inspiring, and the family photos on the walls and their piano just bring it all to life. We were able to step into the hiding place - and just amazing to sit in their actual living room and hear what they endured with such grace. This house has been recently renovated, with maps of the war and where the Jews were from that lost their lives. So educational. I bought a copy of The Hiding Place for my daughter and her friend.

Recently,I went on a one hour tour of the Corrie Ten Boom Home and Museum in the heart of Haarlem.Corrie Ten Boom was a true humanitarian who did her very best to save Jewish lives, during the Nazi Occupation of Holland and Haarlem.Corrie Ten Boom was tortured by the Nazis for hiding Jewish people in her home and her father and sister died in Nazi Detention Facilities.I saw Corrie's small room and where the Ten Boom's hid Jewish People. The guide,Carolyn was most helpful.Reservations for the free English-speaking tours are necessary.Even though, this museum is free,I made a small donation to help with its upkeep

More about the very moving history than much in the house where little is original. an insight into the behaviour of the people in that War

The Corrie Ten Boom House is located close to Central Haarlem.

Entry is free but donations are welcome.

The house is no longer original as other people have lived in the house since and was purchased back by the foundation.

Corrie and her family turned their home into a safe haven for people trying to escape the persecution of the Nazis.

The hideout worked for a while and was succesful four years because it was busy due to the watch repair shop buisiness which operated here.

Unfortunately in 1944, an informant advised the Gestapo and thirty people, including several of the ten Boom family, were arrested. The six people hiding in the secret room were not found and were rescued two days later by the Dutch resistance movement.

Most of the exhibit was an explanation and let down in that it appeared to be Christian oriented conversion which a few other reviewers have pointed out. Whilst I believe in religion it seemed to be too conversion based.

You do get to see the Jewish hiding place which was so small for so many people. The entry was clever and through a bookcase.

Very moving. A must visit. Read the Hiding Place before you go if possible. As soon as we knew we were visiting Holland, made it a priority to come to Haarlem to visit the Corrie Ten Boom museum.

In my ignorance, I had never heard of Corrie ten Boom before researching what we would do on our recent visit to Haarlem, but I've been fascinated with the story of Anne Frank since childhood and had enjoyed visiting her house on a previous visit to Amsterdam, so decided to book a tour of the Corrie ten Boom house.

Tours are free, although a donation is requested at the end, but must be pre booked in advance. They are in either Dutch or English so make sure you book the correct one. According to the website, the tour lasts about an hour.

We arrived in advance of our alloted time, after ringing the bell, we were told the door would be opened at the correct time which is duly was.

Be aware that this is not a museum, you are not able to wander around on your own, looking at things at your own pace. Our guide took us upstairs to the living room, that had at one time been the bedroom of one of Corrie's aunts. We all sat down while she told us the story of Corrie and her family and how they sheltered 7 people during the war. A hiding place was contructed in Corrie's bedroom and a series of alarm bells could be triggered to warn the people sheltering there to hide, they practised repeatedly until they could hide all evidence of their existance within 70 seconds.

After nearly an hour we were taken up to Corrie's room to see the tiny hiding place, accesed through a sliding panel in the wardrobe, where 4 Jewish people and 2 resistance workers remained hidden, despite Corrie and her sister Betsie being arrested and sent to Ravensbruck concentration camp. On the way back down we stopped in 2 further rooms with some maps and memorabilia from the war.

Corrie's Christian faith sustained her and following her eventual release, she devoted the rest of her life to travelling the world talking about her experiences and spreading the word of the gospel. It was therefore not surprising that there was a focus on Christianity during the tour, although it did get a bit 'preachy' by the end when we were told that we needed to pray to overcome all the evil in the world.

Our tour took nearly 2 hours, so long that the tour starting an hour after us had over taken us and finished themselves.

It was very interesting to learn about Corrie's story, however, it would have been nice to see more of the house and find out how everybody coped living in such a confined space, without the constant referencing of her faith.

The ten Boom family saved the lives of many jews and the tour (you must sign up in advance and the tour is free) shows how this was the "Hiding Place" for many of jews escaping the Nazis.

RUN in the opposite direction of this Christian Zionist trap disguised as a museum in Haarlem. I read The Hiding Place as a high school student and was surprised to see that the Corrie ten Boom house was located in Haarlem while visiting. I naively lost two hours of my life being preached at by an evangelical woman who said several racist and questionable things and believed the end of the world was coming as well as the “fact” that Hitler and his cronies were clearly devil worshipers and that Nazis should be forgiven for atrocities they committed. While the Corrie ten Boom house claims to be a museum, the motive of Christian Zionist Mike Evans who purchased the house and is on the board of directors as president (look it up online) is to indoctrinate people all under the guise of providing factual information on the resistance in the Netherlands and the story of the ten Boom family during WW2. I honestly should have walked out of the tour, but I think they purposely pack the tours and close the door when providing their “presentation” to intimidate people not to leave. In the end we were even offered bibles. Please read the 1- & 2-star reviews which validate my bizarre experience. What a wasted opportunity for what could have been a historically accurate educational experience where tourist and locals alike could get to know more about the Dutch resistance, the ten boom family and the Jewish people who hid in this house in Haarlem.
