Comprehensive Overview of the Bulb Industry in the area.
I have lived in this town for like close to 20 years now, but never actually went into the Museum. Bored as I was, I decided that I should, and was very pleasantly surprised! The story they tell is very comprehensive and explains in detail, without getting boring, the history of the industry in this area. Besides that, there are continiously exhibitions of local artists (well-known, nd lesser known) all around the flower(bulb) theme.

Highlight is the boardroom of the old flowerbulb exchange that they rebuild in the museum. You can still smell the cigars!!

By far, the MOST ROMANTIC EXPERIENCE ever... (I'm serious!)
Well, it took me like two hours to get there: from Amsterdam Centraal to the Leyden railway station and from there a bus that drove for about 40 minutes before it left me in Lisse. Once there, I had to wait for the Museum to open. The museum was interesting. The highlight there, in addition to a movie with the history of tulips, was a conversation I had with one of the curators who was surprised to have an Argentine there... He told me of Alexandre Dumas' The Black Tulip and the inspiration inherent in searching for a black tulip (he said that black is in fact the absence of color so a black tulip was impossible...) and emphasized that what is important is the journey not so much as getting to the destination... Hopefully other tourists will have a more attuned sense of orientation than I had because I got lost looking for the bus stop to go back to Leyden and I sort of panicked. It took me a while to find it. Mind you, Lisse is in the middle of plots of land used for growing tulips and in August the land was ¿fallow? When I finally found my way back to Amsterdam Centraal, I was so relieved that I ¡lost my cell phone! I had to buy a new one... Not without reporting the loss at the Lost Property Office in Amsterdam Centraal and then filing a report with the railway station police. IT WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE.

Alles over de tulp en de geschiedenis

History of the introduction and development of tulips in a nutshell
Visited this small, attractive museum with a group of eight. The museum has many objects reflecting bulbs and tulips on display. On the first floor the whole development cycle of tulip cultivation from preparation of the soil, cultivation of new varieties, up to bulb preparation and export is shown including traditional tools used in the process. The museum is small and well organized, worth a visit when visiting the bulb growing area.

Interesting museum

We were given an English version to help us with the brief tour upstairs. Don’t know if we missed a station on tulip mania, but it gave a potted history on development of the tulip. Interesting film at the end. Good selection of items in the shop, after on show.

L'écomusée de la bulbiculture

Bulb industry history

Quite a good history with English audio to assist in some areas but unfortunately not much on the time chart. Modern location with coffee and locker facilities however it’s a bit pricy at 7.5€ each.
