A must see outside this very pictures building is the clock - like a KuKu clock that goes off every hour. A delight to see and it is free.

This building is the hart of the centre, it is a very nice building as building around - but during winter is not so extra... the Christmas market was closed, than huge camion was around... It is better during summer, during cheese market.

I started my self-guided walking tour with the the #1 landmark of Gouda, its striking late Gothic building of the Stadhuis built in 1450. If you go around the building, you can see the scaffold used for executions: in the old days the criminals were hanged there and left on display for several days in order to show the citizens of Gouda what it means to disobey the law.

Gouda is a charming town with a well-preserved old center. As the first port of call for ships from overseas, Gouda collected tolls, making it wealthier than Amsterdam. The impressive church of Sint Jan clearly demonstrates its historic import. Be sure to take advantage of the audio guide which conveys the fascinating history of powerful and wealthy donors of the most extensive collection of original 16th century-stained glass in The Netherlands. The church is contained within an oval of historic houses, narrow on the inner circle of the church, yet angling outward towards the outer street, a most interesting city layout. The 15th century Stadhuis is also an impressive structure, built freestanding after a fire destroyed the earlier town in 1438. Careful, as everything is closed on Mondays, so be sure to schedule your visit on another day to enjoy the Gouda Museum and cheese markets.

We visited on the weekend that many national monuments/ buildings were open free to the public...and had a great time looking round the Stadhuis with some very friendly and informative guides.
Lovely building in the centre of Gouda.
Great town to walk around and loved the buzz of the market Square and it's restaurants/ bars in the evenings.. 😊

Gouda's town hall is located right in the center of the main square. Impossible not to notice!! Very beautiful, it is certainly one of the symbols of this country!!

It’s an interesting and attractive-looking building from the outside. The interior has zero interest. In fact, the only reason to buy a ticket to get in is to have a view of the cheese market from the balcony, on Thursday during the season the market is on!

Cet ancien hôtel de ville vaut le détour, mais n'est pas accessible aux personnes à mobilité réduite. c'est très compliqué vu l'âge du bâtiment,sa hauteur et tous ses escaliers.

Can tourists visit the Stadhuis? If so, when and how much is the entrance fee?

Yes, the Stadhuis is open to tourists Monday to Friday from 9:00 - 17:30. I do not remember the entrance fee but it was low, a few Euro at the most.

Church??? There IS the St John's Church. ( St Jan), close to the market square with its famous former town hall ( where my parents were married, in 1941 and my birth was registered in 1943 and my parents' plans to migrate to Australia were registered......but the St John's (St Jan's kerk) is just down the street, where I rode my first bike, with wooden blocks on the pedals, so that I could reach them!!)
