The Clingendael estate takes its name from a 16th century farm of the same name on this site. In the 17th century, the "Huys Clingendael", a country house surrounded by a large park and outbuildings, was built. This country house, considerably enlarged in 1830, was inhabited for a long time by members of the noble Van Brienen family ... the last resident of this family died in 1939. Since the 1980s, the country house has housed the Clingendael Institute, a co-operative research institution in the field of international relations established by the Dutch government. The large park is accessible to the public and is a popular walking area. The country house is large in size, a wide three-storey building with a central entrance and a main entrance, above which there is an elegant-looking bell tower. Since the renovation in 1830, the facade has shown clear characteristics of the Empire architectural style. The park contains many outbuildings: farm, gatehouse, stables, coach house, etc. The large park around the country house was originally in Le Nôtre style, so strictly geometric in design. In the mid-19th century, the park, which has beautiful water features, was decorated in the English landscape style. The result is impressive... a truly beautiful and well-maintained park with beautiful old rhododendrons in all shapes, sizes and colors. Country house interesting to see .. beautiful park!

Heerlijk gewandeld in de tuinen van dit prachtige, historische landgoed. Kids hebben genoten van het klimmen en klauteren op de vele bunkers, spannend!

Clingendael is uniek, heerlijk rustig, statig en voornaam, doorkijkjes, prachtig landhuis en heel veel groen. Beslist de moeite waard om eens in te verdwalen. Helaas is de Japanse tuin maar heel af en toe open.

Heerlijk om rond te wandelen of lekker te picknicken. Ondanks dat ik zeker niet de enige was die op een zomerse dag hier rond wandelde, kon ik hier tot rust komen.

Fantastic park, located on the borders of Wassenaar and The Hague. Great for a walk, as I did. Unfortunately, the Japanese garden is closed due to COVID19 measures and will be closed for the rest of the year. If you get to chance to come back and visit, please do!

een mooie wandelin op zondag middag.. heerlijke schone lucht ademen.. En een uitzicht op de dingennin het park.. van bomen .water , paddestoelen en nog een restje sneeuwbal.

Such a great park right in the middle of a great town. Just a wonderful place to spend a day or two. Wandering walking it’s just a great place in the woods close to everything. Ans very few bikes

Foresta verde e bella proprio accanto al centro città. Un luogo perfetto per corsa, jogging, ciclismo, relax, equitazione e animali domestici. Pulito e puoi sentire l'odore dei boschi quasi ogni altro momento
