Nice tunnel. You can travel with the ferrie (free of charge) to the other side and take the elevator or escalator (nice wooden from 1930 ) back . Construction work on "city" side so the escalators are closed on this side. Elevator open .

Not the first thing to do in Antwerpen, but certainly worth it when you have some more time to spend in the city. The tunnel is in the centre of the old city. Pedestrians can go down with the wooden original escalator or the lift. Cyclists use the lift. The tunnel is not really suited for both users, because although there is room in the middle of the pathway, excellent for separation of both flows of traffic byciclist and pedestrians, both use the same path. That makes the walk somewhat uncomfortable for pedestrians, but a nuisance which ,like in the city itself, pedestrians are forced to live with. Once at the other side of the Schelde river you are rewarde with a beautiful view on the city.

Great to experience this 1930s tunnel, with beautifully preserved wooden escalators! There’s not a great deal on the other side of the river so we came back again.

Very nice, old tunnel, which is almost 100 years old. Old entrance buildings and wooden escalators looked fantastic. Only minus is that cyclists and electric scooter riders rode very fast inside the tunnel, even riding is prohibited.

The tunnel feels very long. People ride their bikes through it too. The old escalators are marvellous. I didn't get the photos that were on display though.

Interesting if you read history first. When you enter you smell all the antiquity mixed with the smell of oil from the engines. The steps are also made of wood. On the other side -west - are pictures with explanations of the past. The long somewhat moist tunnel is monotonous. Halfway there is a mark on the wall

This tunnel is fun to cycle through. Please note that if the lift is out of order you will have to place your bicycle on the wooden escalator (not for the faint-hearted). The escalator is remarkably preserved from the 1930’s. A must experience when visiting Antwerp!

Ich denke, dass es kein Problem sein sollte. Wie gut sie noch zu Fuß sind, müssen sie natürlich selber wissen. Der Tunnel ist schon ein paar hundert Meter lang, aber da der Zugang über Rolltreppen oder einen Aufzug funktioniert, sollte das nicht zu viel Anstrengung sein. Man wird auch nicht in einem hohen Tempo durchgetrieben. Es ist schon einiges los, aber die schneller Gehenden bzw Fahrradfahrer überholen dann einfach...
