Though I'm not religious, I can surely appreciate the architecture and beauty of a historic and impressive church like this one... it's very near the main square anyways, can't miss it

The Church of Saint Nicholas is a13th century church close to the Grand Place of Mons. The exterior is much younger than the interior due to restorations and rebuilding works over the centuries. The exterior is very much Baroque, while the interior is Romanesque. Although the interior is clearly classical in design, the chapels show clear Baroque influences, especially on the rich and ornate woodwork. The high altar is undoubtedly the masterpiece of the church, although I preferred the Chapel of St. Joseph for the beautiful sculptures shows off the translucence of alabaster with a flourish as well as the sculpture of an angel with infant Jesus.
Not a must-see in Mons, but worthwhile time permitting.

Première église que j'ai visitée à Mons en allant du parc du Waux-Hall vers la Grand-Place.
Le clocher et la façade ont attiré mon attention. Un chantier de rénovation vient apparemment de se terminer. L'édifice est bien mis en valeur, tant l'extérieur que l'intérieur.

Magnifique visite accompagnée de la garde-robe de la statue de la Vierge à l'Enfant et des vêtements sacerdotaux. L'évolution des styles et des techniques, les problèmes liés à la conservation des textiles, expliqués par des guides expertes, n'ont plus de secets pour moi. Merci à la Maison de la Mémoire d'avoir organisé une visite aussi intéressante.

This place is just as stunning as the cathedral. Every alcove and pillar is adorned with carvings of such high quality. This place really is a fabulous assault on the senses. DO NOT MISS.
