Nice collection, but very badly exhibited on (almost fluo) walls. Also, the staff outside the at the entrance or info desk are very rude, and pretend you are inferior. I'm never coming back here!

Beautiful modern Museum of Fine Arts. Numerous spacious halls where you can sit down and enjoy masterpieces in peace. There are numerous entrances and exits and you can move around the halls as you please.
The museum is located from the modern part of the city, about three kilometers from the historical center.
Admission is charged, we recommend that you attend

Very beautiful museum with works from all periods. We were going there for a few hours but we would have spent the day there. If you like paintings, I recommend spending the day there. In addition, parts of the polyptych of the Mystic Lamb are being restored in a glass room. You can see the restorers at work when they are on site.

Beautiful paintings and sculptures in a beautiful building. Very friendly staff work there and on a drizzly public holiday it is not too busy.

Large recently renovated museum.
Renovated part - very beautiful - on the upper floors of the old building.
Mainly Flemish art with some important pieces. Not many to be honest.
Very well organized with audio of every important work.
It can also be visited without a guide - if you are not a super expert
It costs 20 euros...not cheap

Do you have to deposit all coats and bags in the cloakroom before you are allowed to enter the exhibition? If so, is there a long queue? Are the actual Van Eyck’s scattered throughout the exhibition or concentrated in one room? Can you give me any idea of the layout and how many rooms? Am a bit worried about how I will be able to see anything properly, if I will be one of 120 all visiting at 9.30 on Monday morning. Thank you very much for any information!

Hi,
There's quite a lot you are asking there... The three of us spent 2hours there and we we rushing through, mostly taking only a glance over the painting and going on as we were out of time. I'd say you would need 4 hours to appreciate the gallery properly, as it's quite big. I wouldn't worry about the crowds in the morning- we were there at the hight of the holiday season in August at 10 in the morning, and it was nearly empty.
Not sure about the Van Eyck pieces, you'd have to contact the museum directly. Go on their website to see the gallery layout as well.
There is a cloakroom free of charge, you just need to type in a PIN of your choosing, there wasn't a queue at all. Again, not sure if the cloakroom was compulsory, but you would feel more comfortable without your coat and bags if you'd leave them in there.

Er loopt tot 24 juni een mooie tentoonstelling over leven en werk van Medardo Rosso.
Vanaf 21/10 is er de tentoonstelling "Van Bosch tot Tuymans".
Permanent kun je er ook live de restauratie van het "Lam Gods" zien - regelmatig zijn er rondleidingen rond dit thema.
Ter info : aan de overkant van het plein heb je ook het SMAK: Stedelijk Museum voor Aktuele Kunst..

It is open on Sundays (10 - 18) but like many museums in Europe it is closed on Mondays.
You could try St Bavo's Cathedral instead on Monday if you are looking for something that is open.
