Not an earth shattering sight but it’s an impressive spectacle that we hadn’t expected. In this light there is almost an arty blend between the bikes and the stonework and architecture of the building that was once the post office and is now being reused as shops, restaurants and lots more.

Just one of the many cool buildings in Ghent. We enjoyed a tasty breakfast here at Le Pain Quotidien and enjoyed seeing the inside that way.

Very interesting reuse of the old handsome post office building. Now it is partially full of shops and restaurants. But it still looks terrific and is an historic anchor to a big part of the center of town.

In 1909, the former post building stood at a busy intersection and this is where the postilions and the first horse trams stopped.
The lavishly decorated building, built in different architectural styles, has now been transformed into a shopping center where you can shop for fashion, interior and beauty and for a delicious lunch, brunch or breakfast. There is also an AH downstairs. Even now it is a busy intersection because of trams, buses and also the Christmas market. We wanted to look inside, but there is a huge staircase to enter, as well as a staircase down if you want to go to AH. Strange that there are no facilities for people who have problems with stairs, especially near a supermarket and former post office. Eventually it turned out that there was an elevator that went up and down. Too bad there is no reference to that elevator at the post office entrance. The elevator is almost on the corner between the mailbox and the left stairs to AH.

The big building here is the former post office which has been recycled as an upscale shopping and eating place, a collection of shops and cafes. Looks terrific, classic design and I am so happy that it has been preserved and re-used. On a big plaza so you get a good look.

In reality, all of Ghent is beautiful, so the comment doesn't just apply to the square. Everywhere you turn there is something to see or photograph

Ghent's former post office is now a revamped shopping mall with boutiques and a supermarket. Right at a busy square of downtown Ghent, De Post is an interesting place to explore while in the city. The shop is not particularly impressive, though.

Very interesting re-cycling of a classic old gorgeous building into a shopping center. The architecture is splendid and you need to stop for a couple of minutes to drink it in. Otherwise it is a big place to shop. It is the old post office, recycled.
