Der Marktplatz lässt erahnen, dass Ypern - neben Gent und Brügge - einst eine der drei wichtigsten Städte Flanderns war. Die Tuxhhalle, die auch ein WWI-Museum über die Flandernschalchten enthält ist wieder schön hergestellt. Zusammen mit den anderen Gebäuden klann man den früheren Glanz der Stadt erahnen.

Beautiful square with a great Saturday market

Beautiful city, very atmospheric. We felt welcomed wherever we visited and will visit again.
The square is both a meeting point and focal point en route to the Menin Gate. Wonderfully rebuilt after the First World War.

Bellissima piazza

Una delle piu' belle piazze del Belgio soprattutto se si pensa che la citta' non e' molto grande ( 35.00 abitanti ) .Impressionante e' la mole del Lakenhalle ( sala dei panni) e cioe' il mercato dei tessuti.
In un unico edificio troverete il Museo della Guerra e a Torre.
A coronale la piazza, chiesa , municipio e palazzi a gradoni.

Ypres Market Square

It's difficult to believe that this town was flattened in WW1. It has been rebuilt superbly and many of the buildings look as old as they were when they were bombed. A lovely square.

The vibrant Heart of Ypres

A 2 minute walk from the Albion Hotel where I stayed. many restaurants , cafes and bars. Something for all tastes.

Just a wee walk about this beautiful square

Every time I stay in Ypres I have a walk about this lovely Square and I usually meet up with a Lovely Belgium Friend at the Fountain on the square.

Vaste place aux monuments prestigieux

Comment ne pas être admiratif devant cette place dont les monuments avaient été totalement détruits entre 1914 et 1918 et reconstruit à l'identique à l'issue de ce conflit ?On a du mal à y croire tant le travail est parfait

Great Ambience

This is a really fun place - lots of places to sit out with a coffee/beer and watch the world go by. Excellent local food, and it's close to the Menin Gate. They run a local market on Saturday morning.

Hard to imagine that 100 years ago it was not even recognizable. Great location with lots happens. lots of restaurants around. great market on a Saturday morning.
