Fred took us on a very nice hike down the caldera on faial. He new every plant by heart and told us a lot about the landscape which was very interesting! Definitely would recommend this company and for that matter Fred as a guide if anyone wants to visit the caldera! He even brought us a special cake from the island which was very good! What I liked most of all was that Fred knew exactly where to hold in to which roots/trees were sturdy enough to hold an adult and which weren't. In the end it was really an amazing experience which I would definitely recommend!

We arranged for an afternoon tour with Endemic Azores and were completely blown away by the experience. Fred, our guide, is unlike any other “tour guide” I’ve ever met, whether that be here in the Azores or in another travel destination. When we booked an experience with Fred, we essentially booked a mobile classroom; a tour that provided expert education, insight, and perspective from a biologist with an intimate understanding of the species and ecosystems of Faial.
We’ve been on past “tours” which featured little more than hired drivers with a few facts and trivia about a location thrown in here and there, and we’ve paid the same price for that service. This is far more than that; Fred treated us like inquisitive travelers, not “tourists” or “vacationers,” and that is an important distinction. A gifted teacher with enthusiasm and passion for the island, he was able to share complex knowledge with us in a way that we could understand. Ultimately, we walked away from the experience with an appreciation for the delicate balance of Faial’s natural world, and why education, preservation, and conservation are crucial to keeping its biodiversity intact. (And we had a blast the whole time!)

Ficámos muito satisfeitos por ter escolhido a Endemic para uma manhã de caminhada à volta da Caldeira do Faial. O Fred foi um excelente guia, de simpatia inexcedível. Lembrou-se de levar um snack de queijadas que foi precioso a meio da caminhada. Apesar de o percurso não ser muito difícil, são 4 h de quase 10 km por um trilho estreito com subidas e descidas, e convém no mínimo comer um bom pequeno almoço antes. Também demonstrou imenso conhecimento da história, cultura e biologia da ilha. Mostrou-nos os morcegos diurnos dos Açores e as cabras selvagens da Caldeira. E ainda fez óptimas recomendações de restaurantes que valeu a pena experimentarmos.

Fred picked us up at the ferry, and gave us a tour of Faial, explaining the history, and ecology of everything. We saw a full day of rugged coasts, rocky beaches, and ate a lovely lunch of local fish.
We were most excited about our night excursion (9:30 - 11:30) to see the nesting grounds of the Cory’s shearwater - a bird with a distinctive call. It did not disappoint! We arrived with enough light to see and hear 100s of birds flying around us, and were fortunate enough to see (and hear) several in their nests. As avid birdwatchers, we were ecstatic - a birding experience of a lifetime!
The next day Fred took us on a perfect weather day to walk the circumference of the crater, explaining the flora and fauna.
Highly recommend Fred and Endemic as your guide to Faial! He is a trained marine biologist and land guide. We coincidentally met friends from NYC who had booked him the next day for snorkeling.
Fred is friendly, responsive, organized and fun to hang with. We talked about shared love of travel, music and food. He gave us solid recommendations for restaurants and even how to to spend our 2 hours on Pico btwn ferry and plane. (Cab to Cella Bar, cab from there to airport - perfect!)

Smooth booking & communication all the way. Fred was waiting for us at the Ferry ⛴ in the morning (Pico-Faial) to start our 1 day tour around Faial. A very nice experience for us as Fred is a nice guy with a good sense of humour who knows the fauna and flora of the island and also it’s history and volcanic eruptions.
The tour showed all the highlights in Faial in a round trip with stops at different points. Also the lunch at a local restaurant is of good quality. We would certainly recommend this tour if your just 1day in Faial (from Pico it’s a short ferry trip)

Giornata bellissima, abbiamo imparato tantissime cose sulla storia, sulla vita è sulla natura dell’isola di Faial. Compagnia molto piacevole e divertente, disponibile ad ogni richiesta. Stupenda giornata

Adorámos o programa que a Endemic Azores nos preparou! Desde o tour de introdução à geologia, à flora e à fauna do Faial, passando também pela história da Ilha e da Cidade da Horta, com direito a paragem gastronómica num restaurante tradicional e off the beaten track, à manhã de snorkeling, ao whale watching! Foi fantástico! Mas o bónus foi mesmo a observação e a audição nocturna dos catarros! Obrigada Endemic! Obrigada Fred!

Queríamos conhecer a ilha do Faial sem pernoitar e com a Endemic foi possível conhecermos os cantinhos da ilha passando pelos pontos emblemáticos e sermos surpreendidas pelos pontos menos conhecidos mas portadores de uma beleza inigualável.
