Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to see or taste, I only had the disappointment of a Reservation through the official website that was not made because when it says OPEN for visas it is closed. In the telephone service you can see, the house is done, we do not need more... if everything has to be correct then be correct, update the site, which is no longer made seven weeks.

A delight for the palate... shellfish cooked with great subtlety and excellent desserts. In my life, I had never tasted such a light and subtle heifer. I could marry the chef and eat it again every day. The welcome is as charming and pleasant as the cuisine is good! Thank you for this delicate moment during our holiday.

Our experience here was mixed, but ultimately on the negative side.
There were good things. The island location is lovely. It was fun to get the boat over to the island. The oysters we had were good. Other people have complained about food poisoning etc., but ours were fresh and good value at 20 euros a dozen.
Other things weren’t so great. As other posters have pointed out, the conservatory-style restaurant – a bit too footballer chic for my taste tbh – is dramatic but like a greenhouse in the evening sun. Our kids were delighted to see some swings to play on in the grounds, but found them to be so badly maintained they were too scared to play on them.
But what really ruined the experience for us was the underhandedness of the owners/staff. When we arrived, we wanted to take a moment and enjoy the sunshine before dinner. We ordered a pair of caipirinhas, which were awful, and were eventually charged 30 euros, which is astronomical in Portugal. We ordered some wine for dinner. The waiter came back and told us they had run out of the wine we’d chosen, but had a ‘similar’ alternative. It was only similar insofar as it was also wine and – you’ll see a theme emerging here – cost twenty euros more…
A big problem is that few things have clearly marked prices at Ostraveiro. We took this as amateurishness at first, but in retrospect, it was obviously a ploy all the better to fleece foreign customers (I'm of Portuguese descent and know Portuguese well, but my family seem quite foreign, which probably set us up as marks for the staff/owners). We were a little naive here, I must admit, and paid the price quite literally. My suggestion to anyone visiting Ostraveiro is to check on the price of anything before ordering or accepting it. We had octopus for dinner. It was pretty good. But at 50 euros for 2, it was poor value compared to some of the good restaurants near the centre of Aveiro that pride themselves on customer service and honesty.
If I had the time again, I’d visit for some oysters and wine* before going back to some of the lovely restaurants to be found nearer the centre of Aveiro.
* When we were there (mid July), we were told there was no wine by the glass. Fair enough, as there were very few customers.

The oysters were very good, the place is very beautiful. Outside of that, the people try but the food is not very good. The beijoada of lingueirão excited the group but was very poorly prepared, the sausage..

In 2023, I was in Ostraveiro for the first time and having been so well received and experienced such a positive experience, to celebrate a birthday, I decided to go back.
In March 2024 I contacted them to reserve for 29/06/2024 a table/space for a lunch that would last for the afternoon/night, for about 30-40 people.
I contacted the Ostraveiro who were always very attentive and ready in their response.
In exchange for several emails, we decided menu, price, food restrictions among other details.
Day 21/06/2024, as combined send the final list of guests and the summary of everything that had been combined and defined for the day. It would be 35 people, between adults and children. The email was replied the same day: "Good afternoon I'll send to my chef. Thank you."
On 25/06/2024, at 18:00, I was contacted by a gentleman, with whom I had never had contact, who informs me "unfortunately we will have to cancel because we have a problem on the island!". It also informs that the only chance would be another day or on Sunday (30/06/2024) at 5 p.m. I explained if it would be totally impossible any of the hypotheses since they saw guests from far away and that there were accommodations reserved.
There was no more alternative, they just communicated "So when you want to come back, ask to talk to me that I will pay attention!".
Between poorly slept nights and trying to find a space that in 4 days would receive 35 people, for a lunch planned in advance and all the logistics that had already been created around it, I had the feeling that something was not going right, even because one of the guests contacted the space to know if there would be a quiet space to do their breastfeeding, to which they replied that yes, that that day would have all the conditions to do so.
Faced with this, I return to communicate with the Ostraveiro who give me their word of honor that it is a problem, that is affecting them a lot, that they had to cancel everything, including accommodation, and that they do not know when they are open to the public again.
However, what the managers of the establishment do not know, is that I live nearby, with a view even to the space, so on the 29/06/2024 I could see that they were in operation, that they were providing a big event.
I understand, that the volume of billing provided by that event was greater than my lunch between friends would provide (and ⁇ the lunch/dinner of other people for that day), but the lack of decency, transparency, denying it several times when the reality was already obvious, the arrangement of a solution that forced me to say clearly that it was not acceptable, makes you here complaining...for the attitude of the managers / managers of Ostraveiro.
They'd still have a client if they were honest. Thus, they did not lose one, they lost all those who were going to lunch that day and who became unbelieving with the attitude of Ostraveiro.
As for my lunch, don't worry, it ran beautifully, in a wonderful space, and without food poisoning, since lately it's also something frequent in Ostraveiro.

It was an incredible place. Now it's one to avoid.
Friendly staff but terrible food.
Very fresh oysters, clams and other frozen fish. Razor feijoada but, they had gone for a walk. All frozen seafood. I ended up with gastroenteritis. I'm not sure. Place to avoid

The place is incredible, an island at the gates of the city (however, the clouds of mosquitoes can be annoying).
Dinner was part of an event: fado night. The service, although friendly, lacked professionalism and efficiency. Start dinner at 9:00 pm. and finishing at 0:30 am (and the desserts had not yet been served) is not at all acceptable, white wine served at room temperature, poor sangria... As for the food, very poor quality: poorly seasoned food, garlic bread, Alheira puff pastries, patties... if they weren't, they looked like supermarket food; very hard fried cuttlefish and the "strong" dish - a clam feijoada -, completely lacking, and as for the razor clam... well, let's say, for the sake of it, difficult to find.
In conclusion, restaurant to avoid!

I had heard about this place months ago and decided to Vito it today, an extremely rainy day.
Anyway it was a great decision. Absolutely great oysters, of course and samphire with mushrooms and with scrambled eggs. Everything outstanding and all this together with an extremely nice, kind and professional service.
Do yourself a favor and go visit. You won’t regret it!

Espero que esteja bem.
Eu desfrutei deste local na companhia de minha mulher no passado mês de Julho.
É um óptimo local para descansar e apreciar alguns dos pratos locais, em particular as maravilhosas ostras.
Há também a possibilidade de fazer passeios de barco e conhecer a cidade de Aveiro que é a nossa Veneza...
Aconselho a que contacte directamente a Ostraveiro pois é possível que estejam encerrados na época de Inverno.
Espero que tenha um experiencia tão boa ou melhor que a que eu tive.

Hello Din,
In my opinion the best time to visit Ostraveiro and have a wonderful experience is in the months of June, July and August. The weather is hot or warm and allows you to have extensive experiences in the Aveiro lagoon (Ria de Aveiro). At Ostraveiro you can take boat trips and enjoy typical food, in particular, wonderful oysters. You can also visit the city of Aveiro which is considered the Portuguese Venice. The city has fabulous architecture, great restaurants, an open-air shopping center, etc. You can walk along the river and see how friendly Portuguese people are.
If you contact Ostraveiro directly they will tell you how to get from the Central Train Station to the Boarding Pier, but you can always take a taxi because the distance between them is very short.
I hope you have a very pleasant vacation.
