while stopping in Obidas you can not stop to admire this beautiful beautifully ornate church. Decorated with wonderful ceramic tiles. Icons and statues ,. All framed by delicate wooden beams

My wife and I were on a Gate1 tour and we were on our own in Obidos.
We saw quite a few churches, Church of Saint Mary (Igreja de Santa Maria) and São Pedro Church & Chapel of Saint Martin. We spent some time at Sao Pedro Church (Church of St. Peter). To us, this was the best one to visit.
We were disappointed in the others.

Beautiful church in classic local style, overlooking the square, pure white, unfortunately we passed at different times but it was always closed, certainly worth seeing inside too.

The inside of this church is quite beautiful. You can walk in for free and it just takes a few minutes.

The facade of the church is not particularly impressive, but the empty Town Square in front of the church helps draw attention to it. The first thing one notices upon entry to the church are the azulejos tiles that completely cover both sides of the church. The altar is quite nice too.

Uma igrejinha pequena mas ricamente adornada, com talha dourada, azulejos azuis e pintura no teto. E bem preservada como tudo em Óbidos. Vale a pena conhecer.

Magnificent architecture, beautiful statuary and paintings, and gorgeous blue-and-white tiled walls. One of the prettiest churches we saw on our trip.

Likewise many other Churches on the Iberian peninsula, this one was also built over the Mosque when the Moors were defeated in 12c and rebuilt later in middle ages.
Santa Maria occupies the main village square and can be seen from the Castle ramparts, so you cannot miss it. Beautiful Azulejos tile work inside along with a terrific altar and painted ceiling.
