Booked 1-day tour through Hefalump Cafe and had to pay tour guide 57$ the first minute we met, but as the day continued I still do not know what I paid for. The whole experience was worth max 20$ because I did not get half of the program I was promised for. Didn't visit Bunong farms because he said these are too far away so no daily activities in the farm seen and also missed 1 hour jungle trek what I really was waiting for - instead we had 2 hours "relaxed time" in his fancy new house (probably where tourist money goes) while he watched videos with his wife in their room and I just had to sit there by myself. Traditional medicine garden doesn't exist anymore, he just shows you one little piece of land they used to go, so I did not learn anything from "forest" nor so called gardens. Finished the tour hours earlier as promised, the tour included only walks and rides around village, got to see their everyday life & had lunch, but every time there was someone who had made scarfs he was so pushy to make me buy one. Why should I buy something I am not going to use? He can support his village from the tour money I paid not spend it on his fancy new clothes and shoes that only he was wearing while other people really live in poor conditions. Visited waterfall also, but I was disappointed of this, too, just trash everywhere and not worth even going there. I have visited indigenous people villages in Cambodia before and I have spent a year travelling around Asia (half of the time in Southeast Asia), but this is one of the first times I have been disappointed, especially the amount of money I paid for nothing, just felt rip-offed. I would have enjoyed it for what it was if it was fairly priced, because of course you will see & learn new things from village and it's people. On the way there you will see nice views over Mondulkiri, but nothing exceptional. The whole day was still educational and makes you think about life from a new angle, but I just hope they fix the price or offer what is intended and I would not be bitter about it, because I would like to be thankful for this opportunity... but what I read from a board at Hefalump Cafe, none of the activities matched in reality. The paper I was shown later by guide and he was just saying punch of excuses why we are not doing other things even if these were clearly written in 1-day tour schedule.

We took the 2 days 1 night tour and our guide Thouk introduced us to his family and village and we could experience the real life of Bunong people, from their village to their farms. We also had 2 days trekking in the jungle through banana plantation and dry rice fields...at the end we were very tired but happy!
We had other similar experience in Vietnam but none was so authentic, so if you are ready to walk a lot and you can do without a hot shower for 2 days you can't miss it! Thanks to Thouk and his beautiful people for their hospitality, they were all very nice and friendly.

Our guide, Tuk, was very friendly and guided us through his village and several others on the half day tour. It was a relaxed day, but we saw a lot, including many different types of produce being grown, pigs, chickens and buffalo, and visited a natural medicine garden. We also sat and watched while bamboo was prepared for basket weaving, and we watched a village lady weaving a bag, an intricate craft which takes 5 days! We bought some of her bags and a scarf too. Lunch was tasty and there was plenty, including Khmer and traditional Bunong food. The children and villagers were shy but friendly and happy to welcome us into their homes. Our guide was also happy to answer any questions we had. At the end of the day we made a short stop at a beautiful waterfall, where we could take photos and wet our feet. We saw a lot, but it didn't feel rushed but neither was there too much waiting around. For an insight into every day life in a Bunong village, I highly recommend.

We had a great day at the Bunong communities as part of the WEHH project. The local guide came and picked us up at the Hefalump cafe as planned. He was a careful driver and took the time to share and show his way of living.
You should expect a day at a slower pace than most of us Westerners are used to. I guess this is exactly the purpose. This is not about being wowed at every corner. It is about observing, connecting with people, asking the questions you have about their live and view on life.
We got first invited to the home of our guides parents in law. We were free to roam around, look at everything we wanted. We ate passion fruit from their garden.
We went for a nice walk from village to village, saw the waterbuffalo's and ended up for lunch at someone's house. It was delicious and plenty. After lunch and at the hottest of the day we were put into the hammocks underneath one of the houses for a nap. Finding yourself surrounded by the family dogs, cats, chicken and piglets when you wake up again.
The lady who cooked for us is also very skilled in weaving. We really loved the design and bought almost her whole inventory... which she didn't expect.
We walked up to a waterfall and a park with huge trees and had time to enjoy the place.
We saw the local hairdresser and wanted to try that aswell... no problem, everything was possible. Great experience!
The fee you pay goes to the community and is used to improve the way they live, mainly facilities and of course wages for the people executing the tour.
We felt very welcomed.
Call them or email them a few days in advance. They might respond only once a day as they are doing the tours during the day.
