Peaceful, enchantering and unique place. You go there by car it's 30 minutes from Chania but it is worth the travel. Wonderful landascape and wonderful Church and Monastery. A very unique experience.

The monastery is located approximately 200 m from the parking lot and is only accessible in the morning or after 5 p.m. The exterior is nothing exceptional (especially after visiting the Agia Triada Monastery just before).
To access the short hike behind the monastery you have to pay the entrance to the monastery...
The hike has several stages:
- The cave 15 min walk
- The ruins of an ancient monastery 30 minutes from the caves with a steep drop in altitude
- The beach 20 minutes from the ruins of the old monastery (beginning with a dangerous passage therefore not accessible with young children)
The hike is pretty but without shade and you still need to be in good physical condition to go to the beach.
The landscapes are magnificent. This is a beautiful hike to discover the Akrotiri peninsula.

nice walk with varying duration. the monastery itself is 200m from the car park and constitutes a beautiful visit. then a first cave is a 15 min walk (descent) and to finish a 2nd and last one around 40 min. if you want to have everything provided, water and at least 2 hours.

We didn’t know the monastery was closed, but was pleasantly surprised to be allowed in to walk though to see it from the outside. Beyond the gates the views over the coast. There is a hike you can do which gives sweeping and breathtaking views.

... führten dazu, dass wir uns entschlossen, eine – wie erst später erkannt – sehr schöne Wanderung zu unternehmen.
Sie führte uns vom Kloster weg und auf einem zunächst guten Weg zur Bärenhöhle. Letztere liegt zwar etwas abseits von Weg, aber trotzdem lohnt dieser Abstecher. In der Höhle findet der Besucher an zentraler Stelle ein weißes Stein-Objekt, das aufgrund einer christlichen Konstruktion als Gestalt eines Bären interpretiert wurde. Will man bei der Erklärung dieses Objekts tatsächlich auf der Grundlage religiöser Konzepte operieren, so scheint mir dies eher ein Shiva-Lingam zu sein, der hier – vom ‘Glückverheißenden‘ gesandt - eingeschlagen hat.
Der nächste Punkt des Weges sind die Ruinen des Klosters Katholiko, das in grandioser Weise in einem Tal liegt und von dem aus man dann – allerdings auf weniger gut befestigten Pfaden - bis ans Meer gelangt.
Zusammenfassend: Eine sehr empfehlenswerte Wanderung, die man in festem Schuhwerk problemlos unternehmen kann. Unterwegs haben wir auch ältere Menschen und kleine Kinder (in Begleitung) gesehen.

We arrived at 9:30 am. Paid €2.50 per person to a very kind ticket collector. He told us we can now visit the monastery. This hadn’t been possible back in 2016 when we hiked the trail down to the sea. A lovely path leads to the monastery where no photos inside are allowed and coverings are provided. Shorts are considered offensive. Bring a shawl or wrap. It’s a smaller version of Agia Triada and just as lovely. A monk opened a door and a bunch of cats followed him out - breakfast time. He was chuckling. We had a wander and another monk motioned us to the church and we entered. Smaller but designed the same as Agia Triada and totally covered with detailed paintings. Upon exiting the church the same monk brought a plate of cakes to us and we happily took a piece each. We had a lengthy conversation in English with him regarding the monastery. And to to our great surprise - inside the monastery were two very clean toilets to use! Amazing. Lots of renovations going on there. Please be aware of the opening hours of the monastery - 9 am to noon and 5 pm to 7 pm but trail is opened during the other hours. The hike isn’t difficult generally. Bring water. Try to go early in the day. Please do not leave any rubbish. A very special place no matter your belief system.

La visite de ce monastère en pleine montagne se fait en deux temps : au bout de 10 mns de marche on trouve le monastère lui même dans lequel il est interdit de prendre des photos puis, après 20 mns d’une marche épuisante et dangereuse, on trouve une grotte sans vraiment d’interêt.
Ne pas oublier de prendre de l’eau avec soi.
2,50 euros l’entrée mais, même si cela ferme à 19 h, le gardien part à 18 h 30 et c’est donc gratuit. Nous avons vu plusieurs personnes en profiter.
