Titus Church is located in the old town of Heraklion. It houses a relic of Titus. The church used to be a mosque. There are Gothic Byzantine and Ottoman style elements. The colourful stained glass windows on each side of the building depict various Christian saints. Nice to see when you explore Heraklion here.

Just off 25th August Street in the Harbour Area of Heraklion is the beautiful Church of Agios Titos. Very well kept and beautiful decor inside this Church has many many Visitors. You can pay your respects to those you have lost with the Lighting of a Candle and taking a reflective moment or two.

Beautiful church. Wonderful paintings. Peaceful and calm. You can buy candels to light. There was a disabled ramp to enter the church.

Lovely church and quite after the hubub of the souvenir shops. The interior is dominated by an iconostasis, the screen that separates the nave from the sanctuary. The screen was decorated with a series of gold paintings of saints, the life of Christ and icons. There were many other icons round the church, paintings on the walls, a huge wooden chandelier and wooden altar. At the back was a balcony. There were throne-like marble and wooden seats for priests and a platform decorated with flowers probably to carry the skull on which itself was in a separate chapel in a silver reliquary.

Originally (in 1200) it had a single nave, destroyed in the 15th century it was rebuilt with a wooden roof but in 1544 it was destroyed again by fire and was rebuilt even more beautiful. From 1669 under Turkish domination it was converted into a mosque but the earthquake of 1856 destroyed it again but a few years later it was rebuilt as a mosque with its current structure. From 1922 with the exchange of the populations of Greece with Turkey it was returned to Orthodox worship.

An iconic church with many icons, full of art and craftsmanship that is much more than one might expect in a place of such size.

This Orthodox church is dedicated to the patron saint of the island of Crete, whose skull is kept in a reliquary in a prominent place in the temple. It was built in the mid-19th century as an Ottoman mosque on the site where there was previously a Byzantine church converted into a mosque and which was destroyed by an earthquake in the 19th century. The origin of this construction explains its appearance, which stands out for its large central dome, accompanied by four other smaller domes, one on each side of its square floor plan. The exterior of the temple is quite discreet and only its domes attract attention.
Inside, the lower part of the walls is decorated with many icons and paintings, and the central dome supported by four enormous columns also stands out. Also striking is the large wooden lamp under which there is a kind of large cup, which could have baptismal functions if it were a Catholic temple, which I do not know if it is the same in the Orthodox rite.
Access to the temple is free of charge and there are signs indicating that taking images is not allowed. Our visit lasted approximately fifteen minutes. It is not a very large church and does not have too many details that attract attention.
In any case, it is a recommended visit for those who are taking a walk through the historic center of the city and it does not involve any effort to go in for a few minutes to contemplate the interior of the main church of the place.

My wife and I stumbled across this church while on a day trip to Heraklion from Malia. The church used to be a mosque but was converted in 1925. It contains the head of Titus who was the recipient of Paul's letter in the New Testament. It was reminder that Crete is one of the places mentioned in the Bible and where the apostle Paul ministered. The church is very peaceful and parts of the interior are very ornate. It's definitely worth a visit.

The church was built in the name of St. Titus, the first bishop of the island of Crete. The church took its final form in the nineteenth century after being destroyed many times. Its exterior and interior woodwork are quite beautiful.

I am looking at getting married in agios nikolaos next year and i really like this church. Can you take photos inside the church and use a videographer? How many people can the church hold?
撰写日期:2015年9月27日
I confirm the above answer.
I personally took photos inside Agios Titos Church, and most probably you can use Video recording too.
The Church can easily accommodate over 200 people.
