This explains the struggle for autonomy of the Greek people and the wars they had to fight. Usually outnumbered and with older equipment, they fought tenaciously and now honor those who served and fought for them. A HUGE collection of pistols, rifles, swords, and machine guns as well as uniforms.

This was an interesting museum with lots of detail about the various wars Greece was in. It goes back to the independence war in the 1800's though WWII and the Cyprus war. There is alot to see including personal items, guns, ammunition and other war items. There are some explanations in English but no audio guide. The Museum is somewhat hard to find and is sort of behind the exposition building. It is worth a visit but is probably not appropriate for children. It is handicapped accessible.

Superb museum. Set over two floors and a basement. We did the ground floor and first, but gave the basement a miss. It was about a wartime singer of which we didn’t know.
The first floor has heaps of medals, guns, and clothing from the 1st and 2nd world war.
Some really nice bits of history dotted around the two floors. We found it all incredibly interesting and well put together.
Most of the signs were translated into English and lots of helpful people around to bring the place to life.
The outside is littered with planes, tanks, armaments, and bombs. I thoroughly enjoyed our two hours wandering around exploring the floors.
Lots of on street easy parking around. Ideally go early in the morning when it’s empty and the sun hasn’t heated the building up as it has very little aircon.
We went as soon as it opened and it was comfortable.
I highly recommend a visit it you have two hours to kill in the morning.

The War Museum of Thessaloniki (Museio Polemiko) is a true gem of a museum... It was a wonderful discovery, with its wonderfully curated, thoughtful exhibitions on Greek independence, the Balkan wars, First World War and Second World War and collection of arms, vehicles, costumes, uniforms & equipment. We visited with 2 teenage girls, who were enthralled to see such carefully created exhibits describing the turmoil throughout the Balkans during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. I had no idea British battalions were posted in Thessaloniki in the First World War, it was remarkable and very touching to see commemorations of dead British soldiers who had died there among the exhibits. The Nazi uniforms are terrifying, very menacing indeed! We were all absolutely interested to see the Greek perspective on the Treaty of London and Nazi menace. A big thank you to the staff, who were very helpful and informative. A real must-see in Thessaloniki!

Easy to get to and well laid out museum. Covers the whole of Greek military history and most areas have labels in English. However the exhibition in the basement was sadly lacking in English labels so I can only assume that the lady(s) was the Greek answer to Dame Vera Lynn or some such.

Museums in Greece are so much cheaper than the UK. Value for money and of interest to 2 teen boys. Lots to see, not all translated into English. Worth a visit none the less.

Spannende Einblicke in die Geschichte von Griechenland. Von Bürgerkriegen bis zum Zweiten Weltkrieg sehr anschaulich dargestellt. Spannend für Leute, die sich gerne mit der Geschichte eines Landes auseinander setzen.

Un super musé ou l'on apprend qu'il y avait une ligne maginot grecque (ligne metaxas) et beaucoup plus avec le commandos sacré. Pour y aller, lorsque vous faites face à la place de la constitution (vous savez, les evzones ...) sur votre gauche, longez le trottoir 15mn et le musée se découvre sur votre droite. Il y a des avions dans la cours intérieure. vous ne pouvez pas vous tromper !!!
