“An understated statue to a great man”

Found this lovely square, lots of life had a great walk along the prom - shops and restaurants everywhere, here you can experience the traditional greek hospitality at its best

Bella statua posta quasi alla fine dell'omonima piazza, quasi in prossimità del mare. La piazza principale della città non poteva che essere dedicata al famoso filosofo macedone, maestro di Alessandro Magno,. Da notare il piede sinistro del filosofo un po' usurato, segno che toccarlo porta bene.

This great thinker should be towering over the square, its a shame nothing much is written about him and his accomplishments nevermind the additional disrespectful idiots putting graffiti on the stones

Древнегреческий философ сидит и наблюдает за жизнью главной площади Салоников. Туристы массово подходят и трут ему палец на ноге. В целом, небольшой памятник, времени на осмотр надо минут 5-10.

An understated statue to a great man

The statue on the southeast side of the appropriately-named Aristotelous Square. Aristotle (384-322 BCE) is one of the great intellectual figures of Western history. He was the author of a philosophical and scientific system that became the framework for both Christian scholasticism and medieval Islamic philosophy upon which the intellectual revolutions of the Renaissance, Reformation, and the Enlightenment were based. I liked the informal aspect of the bronze statue of the Greek philosopher, so different from rigid classical Greek statues in marble. He holds a paper scroll in his left hand, while his right hand serenely rests on a higher marble base. Aristotelous Square is open at all times with no entry fee.

Σαν να ξεκουράζεται ο Αριστοτέλης και να μας παρατηρεί να πηγαινοερχόμαστε πάνω στη δική του πλατεία...
Το άγαλμα τοποθετήθηκε το 1990. Είναι λίγο κρυμμένο...
Ο προηγ.δήμαρχος Μπουτάρης είχε ανακοινώσει την μεταφορά του αγάλματος και την τοποθέτησή του σε πιο κεντρικό σημείο, αλλά δεν έγινε ακόμη!
