Et must når man er på Bornholm. Intet mindre. Om man er til historie eller ej, så er beliggenheden intet mindre end enestående, med et fantastisk vue ud over Østersøen, og det bakkede terræn der omgiver Hammershus.

Cruise ship port. We did a guided tour through part of the island. Very pretty and interesting. We visited this impressive fort. Well thought out facilities.. plenty of people around

My wife and I were on a Regent cruise in the Baltic Sea, and one of the ports of call was Ronne. Ironically, we did not see much of the town, with the itinerary involving a visit to a round church, a quick walk-around in beautiful Gudhjem, a herring lunch at a smokehouse, and a final stop at Hammershus. We were told by our otherwise rather useless guide that this was the oldest castle ruin in northern Europe, otherwise we were just dropped off near the cafe/gift shop and told to return in 45 minutes.
The castle is at the top of a significant hill, but the gravel and reasonably graded path took about 15 minutes to ascend. Some interesting flowers noted along the path sides.
As a big aficionado of castle and palaces, I could not resist the walk, and it was, indeed, worthwhile. There are many walls still standing, and the height of the hill provided good evidence as to why this site had been chosen for this edifice. It was interesting to see the aspects of the structure which were on the back side of the view one gets looking up from the parking lot at the base.
Pardon my ignorance, but prior to the trip, we had no idea as to where Bornholm was located, but the visit to the island, and the stop at Hammershus, definitely enhanced our appreciation for the centuries of history which characterize the area.

Oj detta är ett måste när man kommer till Bornholm. Lätt att hitta hit. Bra vägar för barnvagnar och rullstolar dock är vägen upp till själva ruinen inte lämplig för de som har svårt att gå. Finns fina bänkar nedanför så man kan beundra utsikten på avstånd. Landskapet runt omkring är tagen från ”medeltida Italien”, djupa dalar, grönska och får/getter på slutningen. Värt det!

Vom Mittelaltercenter initiierte Abendwanderung in der Zeit der Sonnenwende mit kompetenter, charmanter ehrenhafter Dame aus dem Mittelalter. Angereichert mit schönen Geschichten. Beginn 20.45 , Dauer 2 Stunden, zum Ausklang mit Laternen. Sehr romantisch. Dank sehr gutem Wetter und wunderschönem Sonnenuntergang ein unvergesslichen Abend.
