My daughter picked Assistens Cemetery as one of the spots to visit on our trip to Copenhagen this past summer. It is more a park than a cemetery. There are people walking, jogging, biking and picnicking throughout the cemetery. It is beautifully manicured. It is a wonderful place to stroll, sit and reflect.

Hi!
I am Nick from Crete Greece.
I visited Copenhagen last summer with my 17 years old son .
As we spent time at the Superkillien park we entered into the Assistens Cemetery .
We wanted to find the grave of Hans Cristian Andersen .
The weather was humid , warm and cloudy with rain dropping from time to time.
Following the instructions we started our walk.
( The cemetery is in the city nearby a central road but everything inside is magically quiet.
Furthermore squirrels climbing the trees and stared at us.
One of the tombs we visited was the Niels ‘s Bohr ! and finally we found the Andersen’s monument.
A must visit place with or without kids.

Such a unique cemetery to visit, as many have said it's more like an open park, with locals going for walks and runs.
Number 1 guest in cemetery is Hans Christian Anderson along with many more well-known people.
It's not located in a tourist friendly area with other attractions close by, so you do have to find it, I did and i was happy that I did as I enjoy walking around the cemetery/park.

A very nice, very green cemetery, which deserves to be toured calmly. A typical Nordic cemetery not to be missed. It is on Nørrebrogade, the main street of the Nørrebro neighborhood, with its restaurants from various parts of the world and second-hand shops and alternative cafes. It is worth the visit, both to the cemetery and to walk around the neighborhood.

I wanted to see the graves of Hans Christian Andersen and Soren Kierkegaard because I heard this cemetery was very different. It is in a park filled with walkers, bikers, sometimes music and picnics. I love the idea of a cemetery shared with life.It is located in the Norrebro area with good coffee and many kabob places.

It is always surprising to see a place to commemorate the dead well integrated into the daily life of the locals, using the shade of the trees, the green of the meadows for a walk or a run, to rest reading a book or have a picnic.
Makes you wonder if it's a cemetery in the park or a park in the cemetery.
Recommendation the visit for some graves (all marked by a map at the entrance) and for the beauty of the park, full of greenery and squirrels.

Assistens Cemetery in Copenhagen is a beautiful, calm, and serene place that feels more like a park than a traditional cemetery. Its lush greenery and blooming flowers create a tranquil atmosphere perfect for reflection. Notable figures buried here include philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, author Hans Christian Andersen, and physicist Niels Bohr, adding historical and cultural significance. This lovely environment and rich heritage make Assistens Cemetery a great place to quietly stroll through alone, with a friend/significant other or with family.

Went here on way to castles. Very beautiful place with lots of plants and greenery.Got to see HC Andersen and Neil Bohrs graves.

A superb, very well maintained park where you can take a leisurely stroll. It is surprising for us French that it is also a cemetery where tombs, sometimes very old, are scattered here and there. There are even French soldiers from 14/18 who rest there. It's a place where the Danes come to lie down on the grass to sunbathe or have a picnic. An ideal place to recharge your batteries and think with respect of our dearly departed ones.

It is in fact a park cemetery. The main alley serves as a pedestrian route to reach the city center. The tombs are scattered throughout the park where large empty, green and wooded spaces remain. We walked there on a sunny Saturday in May. We were able to come across many Danes lying down, sometimes in swimsuits sunbathing or just having a good time with family or friends. This is also where the father of the Little Mermaid, Hans Christian Andersen, rests.
