Two days ago, we visited the Orebro Museum at the Orebro Castle. We are Americans. My spouse who is deafblind. He was interested to learn about the medieval castle. Before we go to the museum, I visited its website and reviewed. It says that museum floors at first and second floor are accessible. When we arrived at the museum entrance, we learned that there is no fee to visit those floors. There are great models of the castle showing change through the hundred years, from a simple castle with one tower to 4 towers at the expanded castle. They are open for touching. My spouse was thrilled to touch at each model. It helped him to understand how it transformed through hundred years. I had to provide him detailed description, such as colors, patterns, sizes, etc. There is a large landscape model showing the castle, the church and small houses. I described everything for him what it looks. He understood how the city was built. When we arrived at the third floor - it consists chapel and throne room. He was motivated to learn with my assistance and I was ready to describe for him. But the young museum employee told us that my spouse has to pay for the entrance fee. The first and second floor are free, but third floor is not. I explained him that my spouse is deafblind that he can’t see anything. Why he has to pay when he can’t see, I asked him? He could not answer and continued said that he has to pay. We had bit discussions to each other about unfairness for blind people. We have been traveling the world and visited the interested historical places, even Louvre in Paris. They tend to waive the fee - they understood that blind visitors have not same privileges as sighted visitors. The museum eployee suggested that my spouse would need to pay the fee for me. I said no because I was working for him. At Orebro museum doesn’t have materials to provide materials such as Braille in English. We find the museum employee who is insensitive has treated my spouse unfairly and we consider it as a discriminatory against disabilities. Disappointingly, we left.

Dear Charles,
I'm very sorry to hear that you and your spouse felt poorly treated during your visit to Orebro castle. Within the castle we are many different operators and you are correct in your understanding that the exhibitions on floor 3 comes whith an entrance fee. However Orebro County Museum on floor 2, and our exhibition Boom in Bergslagen on the first floor, are all free of charge. We have information in English in all our exhibitions, although unfortenatly not in Braille. We will consider our availability and hope that you will come back to visit us again! /Elin, communications

On our visit, the museum building was under renovation and it had moved to the castle.
However, there was an exhibition change going on and the museum in the castle was also closed.

It is really one of this awfully boring museums that you were forced to visit with school when you were 10 years old. And don't really understand how it could be so dull. They might have some temporary interesting exhibition but they are usual also to political and pedagogical.

I tried to visit, however it was closed. I couldn’t read the notice on the door as it was in Swedish but I understood the word renovate. Not sure how long it will be closed for.

Vi har varit på många utställningar här, alla håller väl inte världsklass, men de flesta har varit mycket sevärda.

A nice museum, especially in the summer with the OpenArt exhibit going on.
There is some pieces of arts and pieces of history. Some infos are in English. There are also a few summaries in English. But most are in swedish, so you have to be a good english speaker and be able to read a bit of swedish to understand everything (or google translate)

En vandringsutställning från Sörmlands läns museum.
Rätt ok, men lite tunn. Brukar vara bättre här på museet.

Denna gång såg jag på Örebroutställningen med prylar från de senaste 100 åren. Mycket nostalgi och en härlig blandning av stort och smått.

I didn't have high expectations and only visited because it was free and on my way from the castle to Wadköping, but I absolutely loved it. A very interesting and unusual exhibition about the history of the city, written in a very enjoyable manner, I could feel the author's affection for the city. Other smaller and nice exhibitions too, but mostly in Swedish (the main one is in English too).
