Impressive collection of artworks from different eras. Well-informed staff and a fantastic exhibition that engaged all the senses. A must for art lovers!

Where nice and peaceful place, was not so crowded, what made the visit very plea. A lot of fine art peaces to see. Recommend!

Fantastic art by famous artists. Standing in front of a painting of Rembrant. Just... nice and easy. The guards were discreet.

Although there was a lot of stuff in this museum that I liked, it did have a few issues.
But first, the good. The top floor was great. I loved the huge array of paintings here, from Picasso to a million Illustres Inconnus that had incredible artwork. I especially liked the landscape paintings, with "En Solglimt" (Nils Kreuger) and "Brinnande ångbåt" (Marcus Larson) being some of my favorites in that category. I spent most of my time on this floor, and I imagine you will too.
As you descend, it shifts to more contemporary art. There is a large hall lined with statues and sculptures that are all contemporary art, and a room branching off filled with self-portraits. On the top of the stairs on one end of that hall is a ping pong table, which would be great to keep kids occupied (you can use it).
The temporary exhibition was regarding the artwork of Ilon Wikland; a comic I had never heard of, but with incredible artwork, and an even more incredible story. I enjoyed this exhibit and learned a lot about Wikland.
I was not an enormous fan of the contemporary art here, but the other art made up for it.

Gothenburg Art Museum is incredibly worth visiting if you are in Gothenburg. There are many famous Swedish and international artists represented here. Great museum with beautiful rooms and a great museum shop when you are done.

The best museum in Goteborg to spend at least four hours with works by: Carl Larsson, Edvar Munch, Anders Zorn, Rembrandt, Monet, Picasso...
There are high quality traveling exhibitions like the one we saw from illustrator Ilon Wikland.
Contemplating Love and Pain(Vampire) by Edgar Munch or the Picasso drawings is already worth the visit.

Excellent museum - really worth a visit. Superb mix of traditional and contemporary and great shop! There was a truly great exhibition from Ilon Wikland, who I'd never heard of (I'm from the UK) which was really touching - the children's prints were actually quite emotional.

I loved this gallery and spent about 2 hours there. It's very reasonably priced, and has a broad selection of art from across the centuries, including many Scandinavian artists as well as some well known European masters. There were also 2 very interesting temporary exhibitions.
