Kesäranta was built in 1873 as a summer villa for an architect. It has a seaside location in the Meilahti area.
Initially, it was a two-story wooden villa, but in 1887, there was a 20-meter tower and a bayside veranda added to the building.
Since 1919, Kesäranta has served as the Prime Minister's official residence.
The area around the villa is well fenced. Also, there is a zone of prohibited airspace over the area.

The tower of the 150 years old villa with a wrap around balcony rises above the trees resembling the Moomin house of Tove Jansson's fairytales. Originally named Villa Bjälbo, Kesäranta is part of the magnificient summer residences built around Meilahti by wealthy citizens. The State purchased it in 1904 for the use of Russian Governor Generals, the first of whom Nikolai Bobrikov was dramatically assasinated by a Finnish nationalist before he had moved in. The seaside site by a walking path is securely gated and has visual contact with the President's more sheltered residence Mäntyniemi over the water.

A beautiful mansion used by the Prime Minister. It is not possible to visit the mansion as a tourist but the area is very nice to have a walk in You can for example start in Hietanimen uimaranta, continue to Cafe Regatta, see the Sibelius monument, then walk among the trees past Kesäranta and Mäntyniemi and finally reach Seurasaari. Also, if you hire a kayak from Helsingin Melontakeskus then you can paddle past these buildings. A wonderful way to spend a sunny day.
