The museum contains drawings and dioramas from the author's various works.
You can see the evolution of the characters over time.
The collection is well structured and all the descriptions are also present in English.
I found the shop a bit subdued.

I loved our visit to the Moomin museum! I especially enjoyed Tuulikki Pietilä's miniature art based on Tove Jansson's stories. They were truly beautifully detailed. Our 4-year-old daughter was slightly frightened by some parts of the museum because the lighting is very dark. Our favourite bits were the miniatures and the giant version of The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My. Well worth the money to visit.

It's always nice to go to moomin museum, especially for the kids. Usually going once there is enough, but there are own creativity rooms and they also offer different things, depending on each month, which is pretty nice. They also have some interactive things. But don't expect too much, yet this is a museum and about moomin and history. But it is nice there, and also relaxing.

We finally made it here on a bitterly cold January day and it was a delight. I will be sixty years old tomorrow and I still have my original Tove Jansson moomin books,so it was a dream come true. Everything was perfect,a small exhibition on the top floor and a huge area below with so many detailed line drawings, various tableaux which were so evocative and so many interactive displays. It was hard not to be overwhelmed but I looked at everything and was thoroughly charmed. Highly recommended.

Really fun and beautiful and beautiful drawings and I do recommend (2-13)years old and so fun so if you go there I don't think you will regret it at least I hope you don't regret it 😊♡

A fascinating look into the Moomin world. This museum is amazing. It’s well laid out, taking you thru the books in chronological order with original artwork and displays.
You are given a guide book when you enter as a supplement, giving you additional background.
This was a wonderful visit and it’s very easy get to Tampere from Helsinki, via a high speed train.

If you know the Moomins, you'll get your money's worth. Wonderful models from the individual stories. Explanations in many languages. Fun! But we hardly saw any children...if you don't know the Moomins, it might be boring. We thought it was great!

Amazing museum. You will learn so much about the Moomins and see some awesome art work and models. Guide books available in several languages. This is 100% a must if you visit Tampere and not too expensive.

A very nicely done museum about Tove Janson and the Moomin stories. Suitable for both children and adults. Unfortunately the texts and audio are not available in German, so it is a bit difficult for younger children.

As part of our honeymoon to Finland, me and my husband visited the Moomin Museum because I’m a huge fan!! We absolutely loved it here and it was so lovely to learn more about the history and also see some of Tove Jansson’s original artwork and tableau’s she and her partner built.
As it’s the only Moomin Museum, it’s a must for Moomin fans and it’s reasonably priced too!

I would allow between 1 and 2 hours to have a good look at everything in the Museum and read the guide book as you go round. There is a classroom area where you can draw and I think they sometimes hold art sessions there. Outside the exhibition space, but still within Tampere Hall, there is a Moomin library where you can read the books. I liked the cafe, which opens for lunches. Finally, the shop is worth a look; if you like stamps, it is worth sending a postcard from the postbox at the Museum as you get a special Moomin postmark (postcards and stamps are available from the desk)!
