There are many caveats with costco.is.
1. The single location is outside the population centre so unless you pass by on your daily routine, do a lot of driving, or possibly own a bar, licensed restaurant or drink heavily, there is hardly anything there that you can't get elsewhere for less.
2. They have a DEI hiring policy, so staff are primarily African, S. American, S. Asian, and Slavic.
Almost no White men or women or Icelanders.
3. No one ever answers the phone, the website is inaccurate and lacks vital info and the staff are generally unfriendly, lack knowledge, sloppy and slow.
4 However, fuel prices are significantly lower than the oligarchic strangle hold existing in the country as a whole.
5. Alcohol is also considerably cheaper, especially some of the weekly specials. Whether 4. & 5. warrant the purchase of a card is debatable.
6. If you're a foreign tourist on your way back to Keflavik to return your rental vehicle, already have a membership card, and need to fill up before dropping off, then definitely fill up at Costco.
7. Gold and silver coins and bullion are also sold.
Although expensive by Saudi Arabian Duty Free prices, it's the only place I've seen it on sale in its purest from anywhere in Iceland.
8. There are also occasional sales or clearances of discontinued items that are random but definitely worthwhile if you are in the market.
Fuel additive, electric bicycles, or antifreeze to name a few.
8. The 299 Isk. hotdog and pop are also a small but otherwise bright ray of snack-shine on an otherwise gloomily expensive Icelandic fast food horizon.
Conclusion:
As a single, nearly retired, German, political refugee. the economic benefits are meager but positive.
I will hold my nose and renew my 5.000,oo Isk. membership.

Costco was okay. I was hoping for it be more localized but it wasn’t. Also, everything was a ripoff. Things you can get state side were marked up probably 5x. I understand that Iceland is expensive, however, being that much more expensive kinda offsets the value Costco provides.

Came to Iceland to see the sights and then stayed by the airport. On the way back from The Golden Circle stopped here for fuel (they have diesel ) for best price and the food court. Once inside it is just like my local Costco in Georgia USA.

2024-March. There were lots of parking spaces. The width of the parking space is not as wide as the ones in Costco United States.
They scan your card when you get in. That's new 🤔
They check your receipt when you head out the door. This is typical.
The store layout is the same as in the United States.
Prices are more expensive (See photos). The shelves are organized.
The staff is nice.
The restroom is clean. Deli food is different. We were here to grab some soda & snacks.
The hotdogs in the deli seem to be more flavorful compared to the ones from the US Costco. The mocha frappe was bland. We thought the white Gelato was vanilla, turned out it was some kind of lemon 😅😅

The place is next the the major route 41 which is easy to find when driving from the iceland international airport just before entering Reykjavik. The setup is similar to Costco in north america and i can use the US costco card. Price is obviously cheaper there for us to stock up on some food items for the ring road trip. Bear in mind the smaller towns along the ring road do not have shop that opens early. Also managed to get a rain jacket (even during summer) as those we use back home are unable to deal with the wind + rain in iceland.
