Waste of money if you are also planning to visit Perlan, which has more value for money and covers everything and more. There is hardly anything different to offer. If we had known then we wouldn't have gone for it.

Very good experience and movie. The VR glasses in the egg chairs was interesting. Liked all the information. Only reason not rated 5 is we never got any of the pictures we took at beginning that were to be sent to our e-mails.

This is quite expensive for what it is.
I expected a whole lot more - given immersive technology available today.
It was nice to get a “free “ photo “ on the positive side.
I think this really needs a big cash injection and some creativity, given what we had to pay for it.

Really informative and interesting. On entrance I wasn’t sure it would take us long but I was wrong. Do much information and photographs, film and music shows and a fantastic virtual reality experience at the end. Probably best for older children to enable them to access all the information.

A really well-made museum.
If, like us, you are not lucky enough to see the Northern Lights live, here you can gnaw a little :)
At the end of the visit, they also offer you a hot drink, which we really enjoyed.

We had two days in the city , being on a cruise stop and had read about the centre prior to arriving. We had taken the hoponoff bus ( note the stop in their map isn’t where it is - they are near the Whales of Iceland -stop 4)
Admission price was 7800kr about £45 per couple. Facilities were explained fully - nice cafe area and seating ( we needed to dry off first )
There is an innovative selfie camera near the entrance. You take your picture and enter email and it’s sent - cool and free.
The exhibition is really informative and explained the phenomenon- that we sandfly missed in the Uk recently.
There is also a film area with beanbags that takes about an hour - but you stay as long as you want.
Finally there are virtual cameras that you can use and experience the Northern Lights.
Nice centre - well run and worth a visit .

I visited the Northern Lights Center for the second time and I loved it as much as the first time last year.
It's very informative and interactive.
You can easily spend hours there, reading all the panels and watching the documentaries, and hardly notice the time passing.
I learned so much about the Northern Lights.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
I highly recommend this museum, one of the top ones in Reykjavik, in my opinion.

The museum was well set up. The exhibition is very interactive and you get a lot of interesting information about the Northern Lights. Both the physical phenomena and the historical facts are well explained. There is parking directly in front of the museum, but it is also easy to reach on foot from the city center. We would go back anytime.

My wife and I had 2 hours of Bliss. Experiencing what the Aurora Borealis would be like.
We had a very pleasant and enjoyable afternoon, I would definitely recommend a visit to the Aurora centre. One day we will see the lights for real but in the meantime this is a very close experience. Thank you.

A small centre with informative displays. Impressive cinema and VR displays of the Northern Lights. Friendly staff. Free coffee. Wish we had been able to see the real thing, but the weather was not good for our stay.

Hey there, we are visiting Reykjavík over Christmas. We are only there 4 nights and wondered if we can get some suggestions of where to book in for Christmas lunch and also what to see and do at that time of year seeing as the days are very short. Definitely do a northern lights tour and Golden circle tour. We had those days and did the southern island tour. You can do a regular tour and the northern lights at night.

Hi there! November is a great time of year to visit, as you are well within the auroral season at that time. Chances of course vary depending on things like the presence of solar activity, and the weather in the area that you are staying- and these factors change very frequently. November is often a low precipitation month however, and so there is some inherent luck on that front.
Our staff are experienced at interpreting the auroral forecast- and are always happy to elaborate further if you are planning a hunt. (I will note though, that this information is not easily attained very far in advance, and is most accurate within 3 days of the date in question.)

It costs ISK 1600, until 1st of May, It will be ISK 1800 after that.

What are the chances of seeing the northern lights in November? Is this one of the best times ? If not when would you recommend? Thankyou

Hi Summerscales123, thanks for writing. November is a great time to view the lights, as you are well within the auroral season (mid August-mid April), and there are plenty of dark hours. The probability of seeing auroral activity is definitely high in November, but is of course affected by many different factors, like cloud cover that evening, and general solar activity levels. The experience can also be affected by where you happen to be watching from, as proximity to city light or a fuller moon phase can affect how your eyes process the light.
That being said, I would definitely recommend November, but I would also keep in mind that at any time of year, the many factors required for auroral visibility must all be cooperating for a successful aurora hunt. Good luck!

March is a great time of year for auroral viewing. Our season ends in April- so there can truly be some prolific views available between February and March. Typically mid to late March hosts some milder weather (on average), though this can be a factor that changes your probability quite frequently. It is hard of course to predict this very far in advance, so it is helpful to think of what other priorities you may have on your trip. Either way- anytime between mid August- mid April will put you within the auroral season. HI. He chances of seeing the lights is good so long as you've got some cloudless nights and the solar activity is good. If that all aligns then you still have a shot at it. The less light you have invading the area the better but there are still so many things out of our control that you have to cross your fingers too. Good luck. They're worth waiting for
