We bought entrance tickets to this attraction for a few euros. Not only viewed the cave where the apostle Paul stayed after he was shipwrecked on Malta. Also the beautiful church above, enormous catacombs from Roman times, air-raid shelters from WW2 and a museum with various relics. This place is definitely worth visiting!

This was a fascinating experience. Paul, the apostle, was stuck in Malta for 3 months after his boat capsized during a violent storm. Paul was a prisoner on his way to Rome. By all accounts, it is in this grotto where Paul lived in the 3 months he spent in Malta before finally completing his journey to Rome.
The self-guided audio takes you deep underground, firstly to the grotto and then to the catacombs. The catacombs are empty, all the remains having been removed which takes away some if the mystery. However, if you suffer from claustrophobia you may not enjoy the experience as the paths can get very tight and cramped, especially if there are lots of tourists. The catacombs housed families during WWII which is quite remarkable.
Your entry ticket also gives you access to the museum which isn’t as interesting as what lies below.

As you walk around trying not to bang your head, you get to realise how big the olace us. The time and manpower that was needed to cut into the stone to make the tunnels and rooms must have been large.
It's sad to think people had to dig out their own room to survive the bombing.

Visit the grotto where Paul stayed for 3 months after being ship wrecked in Malta. He had already performed miracles and he healing and was well received by the local residents.

Large complex of catacombs and WEII shelter with St Paul’s grotto.
Grotto itself is behind closed metal doors - you can see space but can’t walk into.
Catacombs really scare for me as I was at here the only person at the time … claustrophobic but definitely worth to see it.
WWII shelter - great experience to see where population were hiding … such a bravery and dedication of people of Malta during the war.
I would recommend as in ticket price you will see all those attractions plus you can go to museum.

Visitar la Gruta de San Pablo y sus catacumbas no estaba en nuestros planes pero por ir temprano a la mañana a Mdina nos quedo tiempo para visitar Rabat.Pusimos el Google map y a caminar ...El sitio es muy interesante pero no muy diferente a otras catacumbas que he visitado en Roma..estrechos e intrincados pasadizos muy bien señalizados te llevan a visitar las distintos estancias de la catacumba algunas tratadas con un poco mas de cariño que otras.Como broche final debes detenerte en la gruta de San Pablo.El costo de la entrada es accesible gozando de un beneficio para personas mayores de 60 años de edad.Esta bueno.

First of all, this isn't the main catacombs attraction in the area (we thought it was when we arrived). Really interesting shrine and some interesting catacombs too- all connected so you didn't have to walk up and down all the time. Good for 60-90 minutes event

A special and holy place in the center of a bustling area not to be missed. We found it quiet but an incredible experience to be in the footsteps of Saint Paul.

One of the earliest places of worship on Malta was Saint Paul's Grotto. St. Paul is believed to have stayed here in 60 AD after the ship he was on wrecked.

Provavelmente você esteve nas catacumbas de São Paulo e não na gruta que fica abaixo da igreja, são coisas diferentes e muita gente confunde.

As already say I don't know of any painting made by St Paul's of the Madonna. I only know of a painting by St Luke but that's in Roma. Maybe you can send a picture of it
