I know a lot about WW2 and Malta's experience during the siege but the talk from Mike was excellent really putting things into context especially as to how axis air attacks were intercepted and Malta's contribution to the war effort after the siege onto the invasion of Sicily and the Italian mainland. A visit to the nearby tunnels was also interesting and worth doing whilst you are in the area.

Went to view the midday cannon firing at the upper gardens and also bought a ticket to the war rooms. These rooms are under the building 160 steps down to the entrance not the steps underground. Opted for the guided tour @ 12:30. Had to wait a little but not a problem. Mike took the tour and was well versed with the war rooms and in fact history around the WWII relating to Malta. It was an excellent tour of the rooms and informative. I do have general knowledge around this era but was impressed with the restoration of the rooms, artifacts and upkeep. This is a must tour when in Valletta and cannot see how we missed i9t last time - Tip Top Tour.

The guide, Mike, was fantastic - he really knows his facts and accounts of the war. We walked round half an hour before the guided tour so we really understood what he was referring to in his talk - that is advisable. Mike answered all our questions and really inspired me to go and learn more - sadly our education systems do not teach the second world war history and we think we know facts from Hollywood films. Thank you Mike and the museum

Absolutely fascinating and well worth a visit. Easy to get around and packed with information about Maltas participation in WW11 and the invasion of Sicily.

My partner and I had a superb visit to the War Rooms. After watching the midday ceremonial cannon fire we were taken underground and given a highly detailed, informed tour round the Rooms by our guide, Mark. He was extremely knowledgeable and was more than happy to answer questions both during and after the talk. He spoke about the strategic importance of Malta in WW2, as well as the wider conflict in that part of the Mediterranean. The Rooms themselves are well laid out with fascinating artefacts and the staff courteous and helpful. Not to be missed!

I thought I had a reasonable knowledge of the Second World War, but came away with so,so much more knowledge.
Nate, our guide, was so interesting, knowledgeable and informative. He kept us totally enthralled throughout our more than an hour tour. I think it is the most interesting war tour I have ever done.

Highly recommend visiting the Lascaris War Rooms when at Malta. These really give a good insight of the role the island had during WOII. I started with an audio tour and later joined Nate who did a guided tour and gave some extra information.
I also visited the other bunkers during my stay with Mike as a guide and this was an experience I wouldn't want to miss. He took us to the underground parts of the bunker complex and he had great stories with every room we visited.

Very good little museum. I was very surprised at the amount of work that went into the defence of Malta. It was very interesting and staff very friendly.

We took the guided tour. The guide was really knowledgeable and gave us a really interesting insight into not only how the War Rooms worked but also the part Malta played in World War II. It was fascinating to see how the enemy planes were tracked and allied forces sent to intercept them. A brilliant place to visit and great for all ages.

Very informative, good to see the actual underground war rooms with original set ups.

We were there last year and did the War rooms and we walked through some of the tunnels. Incredible! Make time to do it if you can.
The tunnel tour is separate but you can do both together- piggybacking one after the other. It was a very interesting experience, one we really enjoyed.

Do all the war rooms require one to go through narrow tunnels?
If one suffers from claustrophobia, is there much else to see at Lascaris War rooms?

I didn't find that the tunnels were claustrophobic, even though I have experienced claustrophobia in small, confined spaces (for example, the Cuu Chi Tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam).

Start the tour from Upper Barakka and you will be taken to the War Rooms as part of the tour. Upper Barakka is close to Castille, the prime minister's office.

No it is a voluntary organisation but it's very reasonable.
I won’t have much time in Valletta (visiting on 1 March) and I’m very keen to get on one of these tours. Does anyone know at what times of day the guided tours run? Also, how long do they last and is the guided tour included in the admission process or is it extra?

Guided tour is included in the price and takes under an hour. Think they are every hour on the hour

I am still confused about the location of the best entrance to the War rooms for someone with some mobility issues. How do I get to the entrance with the fewest stairs

Thank you for your query. The easiest way is to approach the War Rooms from the Bus Station at St. James Ditch where all the ground is level. Once you are there you need to enter into Herbert Ganado Gardens by going past a large iron gate across a large archway into the garden proper, turn left into a smaller tunnel the floor of which is part ramp and part steps (about 15 steps). This will bring you into the Lascaris Ditch which is all flat. The war rooms are mostly accessible save for its toilets at present while new ones are being built. I hope that this makes it clearer for you.
