Onder de bezielende leiding van gids Michael de diverse War Rooms bezocht (de 'oude' en 'nieuwe' met als laatste de onafgemaakte bunker). Toegegeven, het was niet goedkoop, maar het was heel gaaf om de diverse ruimten te zien! Het voelde als een reis terug in de tijd, zeker als je het vergelijkt met foto's vanuit de periode waarin de kamers nog in gebruik waren. Zeker de moeite waard, ook als geen geschiedenis nerd bent :)

We did the tour rather than on our own. Extremely informative and it gives you a look inside conditions that the troops endured that are hard to imagine with our modern conveniences.

We did the war rooms and tunnels. Our guide, Trevor, was very knowledgeable and made the tour extremely interesting. A little pricey for entrance but worth doing.

What an interesting tour in such a historic building. Trevor our tour guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable and took time to engage with our small group, bringing the history of the war rooms to life.

The experience is fantastic however with Mike as the guide he made the experience come alive.
His knowledge is incredible which, when added to the incredibly historic surroundings you are in it makes for a great experience.

Warte odwiedzenia, jednak co dziwne nie polecam wycieczki z przewodnikiem. Dużo ciekawiej jest zwiedzić muzeum samemu i zatrzymać się przy poszczególnych lokacjach. Przewodnik opowiada na wesoło fajne rzeczy, jednak omija się dużą część wystawy.

Mike was the best tour guide. Very interesting and informative, it made the tour come to life with the ability to envisage how it must have been during WWII.

A really interesting museum, plenty to look at plus they offer a guided tour if you require.
The war rooms are twinned with RAF Northolt which again is very interesting.
If you love your Military History as we do, it is a "must" to visit. There is information regarding Operation Husky amongst other things.

Excellent tour with Mike! He was so knowledgeable about history of the rooms.
He was very informative and all the family were fascinated. Would really recommend a trip to the war rooms but especially a tour with Mike.

Hi, They form part of the same complex. The War HQ Tunnels were used between 1940 and early 1943 during eth Air Battle for Malta and the Lascaris War Rooms replaced in May 1943 in time for the launching from them of Operation Husky - the Allied invasion of Sicily when they served as General Eisenhower's Head Quarters. They are two very large underground complexes hence being separated into two distinct visits with separate tickets. the whole of them measures an area of 38,000 square meters of tunnelling. We recommend doing them both either on the same day or on different days. Both went on in use until 1977.

I didn't find that the tunnels were claustrophobic, even though I have experienced claustrophobia in small, confined spaces (for example, the Cuu Chi Tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam).

Start the tour from Upper Barakka and you will be taken to the War Rooms as part of the tour. Upper Barakka is close to Castille, the prime minister's office.

I won’t have much time in Valletta (visiting on 1 March) and I’m very keen to get on one of these tours. Does anyone know at what times of day the guided tours run? Also, how long do they last and is the guided tour included in the admission process or is it extra?

Guided tour is included in the price and takes under an hour. Think they are every hour on the hour

Thank you for your query. The easiest way is to approach the War Rooms from the Bus Station at St. James Ditch where all the ground is level. Once you are there you need to enter into Herbert Ganado Gardens by going past a large iron gate across a large archway into the garden proper, turn left into a smaller tunnel the floor of which is part ramp and part steps (about 15 steps). This will bring you into the Lascaris Ditch which is all flat. The war rooms are mostly accessible save for its toilets at present while new ones are being built. I hope that this makes it clearer for you.
