The Neimenster will no doubt be the centrepiece of your best photos in Luxembourg City, the view of it from Chemin de la Corniche is truly wonderful. Luxembourg is certainly worthy of it's World Heritage status.

Nadat de oorspronkelijke benedictijnenabdij halverwege de zestiende eeuw was verwoest, begonnen de monniken in het jaar 1606 met de bouw van een nieuwe abdij in de wijk Grund kreeg de naam Neumünster. In 1684 werd de abdij verwoest tijdens het beleg van Luxemburg en nadat het weer hersteld was in de 18e eeuw werd het gebruikt als gebruikt als gevangenis en kazerne. In 2004 na een grondige renovatie werd de abdij van Neumünster geopend voor het grote publiek en gebruikt als cultureel centrum.
Vanaf het binnenplein het je een mooi uitzicht op de Alzette met de Pont du Stierchen en de kazematten. Je kan langs de Alzette en abdij lopen dan kom je uit bij de Église Saint-Jean-du-Grund.
Je kan vanaf de Rue Münster zowel rechts de parkeerplaats over lopen (dan de poort) of links langs de kerk en Alzette om bij de binnenplaats te komen.
Vanaf het binnenplein het je een mooi uitzicht op de Alzette met de Pont du Stierchen en de kazematten. Je kan langs de Alzette en abdij lopen dan kom je uit bij de Église Saint-Jean-du-Grund.

On the 19th of May 2024 the Neimënster had "open doors", a show case for all kind of artists! Plenty of publicity was made for this "event" .... but it was a disappointment 🥴
Much ado about nothing!
Staff was friendly, but totally incompetent! Didn't know about the different buildings/rooms where/what/when .... would happen.
Finally we got a brochure and found out ourselves where to go ... some of the "happenings" were absolut jokes!!!??? For example Cléo Totti at salle Unden 😱 (project called "fantômes")!!
In the concert auditorium salle Krieps we "experienced" Angela Aguilera with her project "musique multisensorielle" 🙉 OMG
Well.... now the positive aspect! Neimënster is part of UNESCO world heritage, the buildings are extremly nice and perfectly renovated!! Some centuries ago, Neimënster was an abbey, after that it was a prison!! Now it is a centre for cultural events/centre de rencontres culturelles.
Great views, great for picture taking ... (avoid onsite café brasserie "Abtei Neimënster", overpriced, bad food&service).
You can take the free elevator at St.Esprit to get down to Grund where you'll find the Neimünster.

This was a major abbey in Luxembourg. Today the Neumunster houses a small church, a venue for performing arts as well as a small cafe. The cloister is quite impressive and the view of the valley very picturesque.

The cultural centre covers a vast area in the centre of the city. Oddly entry is through a single side door which takes you through to a reception area. On the ground floor there are photos showing the building in one of its former lives as a prison. Up a splendid staircase brings you to a modern art sculpture gallery, then through to photographic and modern art galleries. The place is vast and no expense has been spared in its conversion from a dilapidated prison.
We found the displays a little haphazard with little information on the art displayed. As a building, it is very impressive but the content in our view is skippable unless you run out of things to do.

Went for an office party ..huge place..can manage crowd well..excellent backdrop. It's easy to reach the place if you take the elevator from the upper city

This Abey is truly the centerpiece of the Grund area, below in lower town. It makes the pictures from above pop out, as it gives the area all its charm and splendor!
